Re: Employment in the firearms industry

Many men have chased their dream only to find the well is dry.I worked as a machinist running my own shop then went to school and now I am a master gunsmith I love my job and I'm good at it but I would starve if I had to support myself on my pay most gun guys are very thrifty and will not pay what your worth, there's always somebody that calls themselves a gunsmith that will do the work for a lot less I hope you find that position, there is rewards in doing a job well

Re: Employment in the firearms industry

I work as a Machinist doing support for Research and Development for a large Heavy Equipment Manufactuer.
I am 1 hour away from Armalite, Springfield Armory, Rock River Arms, and Lewis Machine and Tool. Earlier this year things were slow in the shop I work at and I was given a few weeks off, so I went to or applied at all of the above. Only one company let me in for an interview. It went very well. But...The guy told me this was the first time ever he had more qualified applicants than positions due to the economy and unemployment rate. In order for him to match what I am making at my current job he would have had to put me in an "engineering" department and create a job for me. The gun industry seems to need machine operators more than it needs Machinists.
