Democrats beating up Hippies- 1968

Snip

Some were bent on disrupting the convention by whatever means necessary, while others focused on more leftfield tactics such as holding a counter convention offering the likes of a nude grope-in for peace and prosperity, and workshops on joint rolling, guerrilla theatre and draft dodging.

The force he mobilised against demonstrators included all the city's 12,000 police, supported by 6,000 armed National Guardsman and 1,000 intelligence agents from the FBI, CIA, Army and Navy. Another 6,000 US Army troops were put on standby.

A little reminder of the History of the DNC

I spent most of the summer of '68 in and around Chicago. Remember it well. I went with my cousin to see Janis Joplin August 23 at Mother Blues. How did a 13 year old sneak into that venue? Well, look at the date - back then, life was a bit loose.

We stayed away from the DNC, I'll tell you that.

Gee, who's that sound like today? Almost like something happened across the 60s and 70s, changing the demographics, platforms, and even geographic norms for the parties. A sort of Strategy that targeted the Southern US.

I spent the Spring and early Summer of 1968 in Chicago, going to technical school for IBM. My time there was just after returning from my enlistment in the Corps as a Vietnam Vet. There was nearly no political unrest or activism visible downtown, or in the Evanston area where we were housed.

I'm guessing all of the activism was shipped in at the last minute. Whatever the origin, it was well organized and massive.
