Your giving the impression that you actually thought the clowns running that dump had a mind to loose in the first place.
I put them in the same boat as the brain dead we have in Birmingham, a city that had to declare bankruptcy, over shitty plans(sewage). It was all a scam from the get go an everyone knew it save the bankers who were in on it, an who pissed peoples money down the shit'er,...

Was the homeless issue as bad before pot was legalized? Or is it a byproduct?

There is just something very wrong about entire groups of working age 18-40 year old males, who instead of working hard to attain their dreams and goals and giving back to their communities, are burying themselves into a substance that saps the very willpower, energy and productivity out of a person. Am I the only one seeing something very wrong with this picture?

Pot has nothing to do with it,

Coming from the east coast I was around NYC during their crackdown on homeless, unlike how it is now. Moving to Denver I felt it was much worse than NYC, the only time I recall NYC being worse was during the 70s.

Denver has been bad since I moved out here, and it's only getting worse.

What's driving it?

Not very far,

They are everywhere, and our winters are actually pretty mild, you get a bit of sub-freezing temps, but mainly it's pretty moderate temp wise.

The homeless are on every street corner and all over downtown

Damn...what a shame. Used to visit Denver a lot and it was one of my favorite cities. Haven't been since 2012 but can't imagine it being full of homeless

Colorado Springs, where I lived until moving to Wyoming about 3 years ago, also has a homeless problem. I watched it get worse every year. In a truly warped sort of way, I'm a bit impressed by people who would choose to live that way when they could be earning a living. Of course, there also are large numbers of homeless who don't have the mental capacity to function on even menial jobs, but they no longer are placed in state asylums.

It's an ugly condition all around, for which I have no workable solution in mind. I do know that I do not agree with the socialists that are ruining too many areas.

Wyoming, fortunately, has such a horrible reputation about its weather that, so far, few socialists and homeless have made it to here.

Last I was in Denver was 1986, sound's like I would not even recognize it,...

I lived in the Denver area in the early 70's. It was just a big cowtown then. Visited again circa 1990 and it had been cleaned up, modernized, and was pretty nice. Sad to see it go to shit.

It is like an agricultural blight. Slowly spreading outward even into the good fields and leaving nothing but gray dust in it's wake.

There were a lot of people on the Web gun boards back in the 2000's saying things like "I live in Texas. Gun country. It can't happen here." I wonder how many of them wish they can take back their words now?

We have had a few in the county I live in, but most are moved along quickly by the SO. In the summer there are many that traverse the roads at all hr's. Had a few B&E's last year but two of them did not survive the encounter with the home owners. Maybe the word gets around/back to them don't know,...

In SLC there is a pretty good homeless population.
Anyone ever notice they congregate in Democrat/liberal centers and NOT Republican/conservative centers.

You want to see homeless out of control go to Hawaii, Oahu most notably. After seeing Pearl Harbor twice that island has nothing left to offer me.

First dead person i seen not in a funeral home was a overdose in penn station. Needle still in arm, i was 14 or so. 5 cops standing there drinking coffee waiting for ambulance. The 70s were a bad time.

Denver was a great little city in late 90's and early 2000's. Then the policies of democrat leadership showed their colors and are in the process of finishing the job of turning denver into just another shithole. It is boulders bitch.

They are a terrible mess.

Nothing done to help them. This sure isnt it.

Had a homeless guy once in my care. Buddies called 911 after days of bringing him snacks and booze at his lean-to behind some ratty business on Colfax. He hadnt moved from it in a week and was covered in urine, feces, vomit, and had a little frost bite.
Had to let him thaw out about 2 hours and then took him to a shower. Hot water, lots of soap, and towels.

Back in his room (all clothing double bagged in biohazard bags and placed outside in the ambulance bay) and in some scrubs he looked much better.

Then as I walked past the door to see another patient, he hollered that I needed to get him a sandwich and some soda.
I took 2 security guards and a nurse in, shut the door, and explained a few things to him. I took the others to prove I didnt whip his ass as he would have claimed I did after the ass chewing I gave him.
He had to be admitted for medical issues and waited until he got a bed upstairs to eat. He refused to be polite and respectful, so that was an easy choice.

Good reminder why I like my current job and listening to classical music on my headphones all day.

LOL.

My buddy and I took our first trip to the East Village and lower Manhattan about 1965...we were 16. It was mid January and about 25% F, walking through the Bowery there was a guy sitting in a doorway with just an empty bottle of Vitalis (that was an alcohol based hair tonic) in a Tee shirt and frozen spit running down his beard. My buddy pushed him to wake him up and he was frozen solid as a board. We told the cop we saw up the street and he says "So what?".

You are seeing the feminization of a generation of males. They are not being taught the value of earning what you get, what being a man actually means and what their role in society really is. Character and true conviction has no meaning for them. They have been taught that compassionate means being a pussy and having soft hands instead of supportive and giving strength to those who are feeling weak. Awww fuck it and fuck them too.

Rise of the great depression era homeless chantey towns just needs the logo like the planet of the apes in the back round , but with tents and people squatting over a large can .

Dear God! Here in St. Louis there’s a lot of crook on crook crime, but nothing like Denver, Portland, and San Francisco.

I am very glad I live where most liberals still speak in hushed tones.

It was bad, but the dope issue has made it considerably worse.

We used to have a massive encampment along the riverbank. One day a friend from church went down and spent the whole day talking to them. He spoke to over 30 of them. Not a single one was there due to unfortunate circumstances. Every. Single. One. was there by choice. They didn't want the responsibility of a job and were perfectly content to mooch off the generosity of others.

Calling them "homeless" is an affront to the English language.

I remember going to NYC in the late sixties. I was like 10-12 years old. I remember hearing we are going through the Bowery. I thought cool. I like the Bowery boys this should be interesting to see...First thing I saw was a drunk in the middle of the road pissing. At least it was not Slip Mahoney or Sach. :) NYC was everything you wanted and did not want to see. That was pre Twin Tower being built. We went to the Empire State Building.

@timesublime is pretty close.

Lots of people come like a gold rush, thinking there are lots of high paying jobs in the pot industry and then they can be stoned all day.
Doesnt work that way.

I dont care if someone wants to take a toke here and there, or nightly like I have a beer or 2 fingers of whiskey.

If someone smokes all day every day and everywhere they go, they are a junky to a different devil.

Its a problem of our society in general, not just dope. Dope is for sure a catalyst.

There is a real aspect of this. People came here for the legal weed with few/no appreciable job skills and arrived in Denver just as the price of housing/rent went through the roof. High and homeless.

You guys are entitled to your opinions. For a very small percentage you are probably correct, but you are trying to draw lines between things, that on a broad scale, are not cause and effect but coincidence. Colorado's big cities are following down the same path as all the others. No legal weed in most of them until recently{Seattle] but they are all suffering from some stage of the same problem.

Are we taking on a lot of homeless from the east coast? You bet your ass. I bet you dollars to donuts someone is using tax dollars to get a lot of them here also. Colorado is a much nicer place to be homeless than most of the east coast.

Not as nice as Cali though! I hear they take good care of all their homeless!
