What are the major differences between these two rifles? Im having a hard time locating a 700PSS in 300 WinMag and was thinking about looking into the XCR Long Range Tactical. Is out of the box accuracy comparable?

The XCR did not replace the PSS, the PSS is now called the 700P, the 700P can usually be found for around 800 bucks, the XCR around 1000.

As far as I know, both are equipped with varmint weight barrels.

.
Its been that way for several years now,(P no PSS) guess im not the only one to realize that. Both should shoot well any varmint weight 700 I ever had does, but the stainless doe seem to do just a little better. I dont know why.

Re: Diff between 700PSS & 700XCR Tactical Long Range

So the 700PSS was phased out by the 700P? The 700PSS and 700P were identical except for the name change?

I am having my gun smith build me the following rifle:

1: McMillan A5 Stock
2: Surgeon 300winmag action
3: Surgeon bottom metal for DBM
4: Badger rings
5: Jewel Trigger
6: Custom brake
7: S&B Optics

But its going to be months before I can get my hands on it. So i need to find a rifle for the meantime. Should I be looking for the XCR, 700P, or 700PSS? I will be target shooting at my local 1000yrd range, and hunting white tail this fall. Im set on 300winmag. What would you guys recommend?

If you want to spend 1000 bucks on a hold me over rifle, knock yourself out.
Unless you have whitetails the size of moose, the 300WM isn't neccesary. Besides, carrying that heavy beast through the woods won't be much fun.

A Sendero in 300 WM will serve your purpose just fine, but in all honesty, for hunting I'd look at the 700 .308 SPS tactical AAC model, buy a B&C light tactical stock for it. You can easily reach 1000 yards, it is an excellent deer round, much easier to use in a hunting situation and will be VERY easy to sell when your custom stick gets in. Hell, I'd call dibs on it right now.

Re: Diff between 700PSS & 700XCR Tactical Long Range

It seems that the XCR tactical long range has a stainless steel barrel and action and the 700Police does not. And i believe the XCR has a DBM? Im really torn between these two rifles. Ive called every firearms dealer within 150miles of my house and only found 1 700Police and 1 XCR Long Range Tactical. I really need to pick what I want. There doesnt seem to be much info about the XCR's performance on the net. Anybody else want to chim in before I spend my hard earned money?

Re: Diff between 700PSS & 700XCR Tactical Long Range

my buddy has one in 308 I think it's alot of hype because it says LONG RANGE TACTICAL oooooooo aaaahhhhh lol. has some "special trigger" and a carlson stock if I remember right.
paid like $1400 bucks for it. It shoots as good as any other decent 700.
go with the PSS, same quality less hype and price

just my .02

Re: Diff between 700PSS & 700XCR Tactical Long Range

I have an XCR Tactical in 308 and it shoots outstanding for a factory rifle. They do NOT have a detachable magazine, just a standard BDL floorplate.`You might also consider picking up a 5R as they seem to hold their resale value fairly well.

Re: Diff between 700PSS & 700XCR Tactical Long Range

I have searched for a 5R in 300winmag, but cant find one. Apparently they do exist....but are extremely hard to find.

I keep going back and forth between these two rifles. There is just soooo much more positive info in regards to the 700 Police. Maybe the XCR is just too new to have a "cult" following like the Police. I wish i could find more reviews about it. I think I will be more comfortable purchasing the Police because of its well established history as a shooter.

I think the thing im liking most about the XCR is the stock and trigger. But I could always change the stock and trigger on the police if I really wanted too. the price difference between the police and the XCR is $160. Im going to have Dave Bruno go over this Police anyways. Im sure he can get the trigger and accuracy dialed in.

Do they make a Versa-Pod adapter that would work with the 700 Police?

Did the 700 Police very come with the 40x trigger?
