I have been reading a lot lately as I want an AR to go along with my bolt gun. I have been wanting to build one either with Seekins parts or JP or any of the other "High End" But then I got to thinking. why not just get a S&W M&P and go from there. What is the difference between a M&P and say a JP?

Re: Difference in AR brands

The difference is the barrel. I've had several M&P15 rifles before I decided to build all my own. I use Vltor uppers receivers for all of them, different lowers from S&W, Mega Arms or any other reliable lower with a nice finish and then I pick my barrel based on what my use for the gun will be and the price I want to spend. There's no reason to buy complete rifles, pick your parts and build your own. I start from scratch, no sense in taking a part an off the shelf rifle just to trash parts. PM me if you have any questions.

Not much different than a bolt gun when you boil it down. Barrel, trigger, ammo. If those are good components and doing their job well it's a great start. Welcome to Barbie for men...the black rifle disease.

+1 My lowers get in tomorrow, first AR build! (or two, why buy one lower for $90 when you can have two for $180!)
