Different bullet mfg, same weight, same charge?

I'm looking at my VihtaVuori reloading guide and it lists powder charges for the 250 Lock Base and 250 Scenar's but the charge is different. My problem is, I have 250 SMK's and there isn't any load data for that round. Can I start using the charges for the Lock Base and Scenar's?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Different bullet mfg, same weight, same charge?

Thanks for the confirmation. One last thing, so I don't blow myself up with to low of a minimum load. The minimum loads are diffferent between the 250 Lapua Lock Base and the 250 Scenar's.

250 Lapua Lock Base Minimum = 89.5 grs
250 Lapua Scenar Minimum = 88.7 grs

I've read that starting to low can create a problem, would the minimum I start with maybe be in the middle of the range, say, 89.1 grs?

Generally you shoot for stating about 10% below max, and work your way up. If I were you I would start with roundabout 81gr, and work my way up to max looking for accuracy nodes as I go.

If those are the minimum loads then I would start at 89.5grns. You're not going to blow yourself up starting at the minimum and could probably start higher. You are thinking of people getting detonations from using way to low of a charge like trying to use the standard powder for a subsonic load.

What is the max listed?

I use the same weight for different bullets and have used the average of higher and lower bullet weights for when there isn't anything listed. Never used to be any 210 grn bullet data for the 300WM so I took the min/max 200grn and 220 grn and used the average. Worked fine.

Re: Different bullet mfg, same weight, same charge?

The range for the 250's are:

250 Lapua Lock Base
Minimum = 89.5 grs
Maximum = 99.1 grs (Full Case)

250 Lapua Scenar
Minimum = 88.7 grs
Maximum = 98.8 grs (Full Case)

I created 3 rounds each with the loads below for my ladder test:

250 Lapua Lock Base
89.5 grs
91.5 grs
93.5 grs
95.5 grs
97.5 grs
99.0 grs

300 Sierra HPBT SMK
83.2 grs
85.2 grs
87.2 grs
89.2 grs
91.2 grs

I need to create loads for my 250 HPBT SMK's which is the topic of this thread. I figure I'll make the following loads like the 250 Lapua Lock Base and see what happens:

250 Sierra HPBT SMK
89.5 grs
91.5 grs
93.5 grs
95.5 grs
97.5 grs
99.0 grs

The 250/300 Lapua Scenar's have load data so that shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks again for the help.
