Punched primers (9mm) go about everywhere but in the little catch bin.

Any ideas?

I'm tired of bare-footing punched primers !!

Thax.

The cheap way is tape some cardboard around the top of the catch bin to extend it.
The more expensive way is something like this:

There is one other thing to look at but not as common. The tiny cotter pin that holds the halves of the spent primer catcher can bind and cause it stay open. Cutting a paper clip and carefully bending the ends makes more of an 'axle' that doesn't hang up.

Far as I can tell, they are shooting out the top / side of the primer catcher.

That one may be addressed by adjusting the de-capping pin protrusion. I've seen both too much and too little pin alter the timing there (or a bent pin kicking them out at an angle). Also de-capping some crimped primers can really stretch and hang on to the pin and then get pulled off on the down-stroke and go random directions.

There are a few things that I’ve done on my 550 regarding spent primers. The spent primers catcher chute isn’t “sealed” and is kind of open on the sides. These aren’t new ideas but things you might want to try. I still fling a few but it isn’t as bad:

1. As stated above, the cotter pin can cause the chute to get hung up. I replaced mine with the shank of a fishing hook keeping the hook eye intact.

2. Round off the burr that eventually forms at the base of the decapping pin. They tend to flatten, flare out and grab the spent primers.

3. Decapping pin should protrude about the thickness of two nickels from the bottom of the sizing die (as per Redding’s instructions).

Hope this helps.
