So my buddy let me have his Dillon 650 for a while.
Stared with 9mm and it ran good. Then I changed it over to .223
and all hell broke loose. I load Varget in most of my guns and that P.O.S. will not drop it. So is it me or the press?
It was drop 1.5-2 grains difference between drops. HELP!!!!!!!!!

Re: Dillon 650 extruded powders

Varget is a long extruded powder. A lot of drops have a hard time being consistent with it. What is your loading purpose, precision or bulk?

Re: Dillon 650 extruded powders

The Dillon powder measure does not work well with extruded powders. I tried just about every modification to it with no gain in charge consistency. Instead I bought the powder measure adapter and powder die, then attached my RCBS measure:

If you are willing to switch to a ball powder the Dillon measure works well with them.

Re: Dillon 650 extruded powders

Attaching the Hornady LNL powder thrower also works great. Metered lots of Varget through it over the years.

Re: Dillon 650 extruded powders

I use a Dillon 550 and had the same problem. Called Dillon and the tech told me to tighten the wing nut on the rod that pulls down the powder bar. He said to tighten it so that the spring above the wing nut was tight enough that you couldn't fit a business card between the coils. Said that the instructions and dvd were incorrect and should be changed. It has fixed the problem for me now my .223 Varget powder drops are usually within .2 grains. Which is just a little worse than my fancy Harrels powder measure. Hope I explained it OK...Have you buddy call Dillon.

Re: Dillon 650 extruded powders

Yeah, I have had the same experience with varget. I switched to benchmark, smaller kernels, meters like a dream.

Re: Dillon 650 extruded powders

I have not called Dillon. I'm not changing powder my gun shoot sub 1/2 M.O.A. with Varget.
Has any one tried the Hornady Press.
