We'll see what the prosecutor does. Not sure how hungry they are for convictions in that neck of the woods. Spotsylvania County, VA, just not sure.

As for the homeowner, a little prevention could have worked wonders... (i.e. Caneras, motion detecting devices that alert you before they get to the door, etc. or some of these lights that turn on with motion detectors). I understand he had a door bell camera but you might want some motion detecting cameras/devices about 15-20 ft. away from the doors. Doesn't help with night time roaming animals, I know, but...

So typical to say the victims wrong, I am in my house, you come on may property AND kick in my door. Prepare to meet GOD.

Ohio's Self-Defense Laws:
  • No Duty to Retreat:
    .

Ohio's "stand your ground" law eliminates the duty to retreat if you're in a place where you have a legal right to be, such as your home or vehicle.

  • Presumption of Self-Defense:
    .

If an intruder enters your residence or vehicle unlawfully, the court will presume you were acting in self-defense.

  • Reasonable Belief of Imminent Danger:
    .

To use deadly force, you must have a reasonable belief that you or someone else is in imminent danger of death or serious physical harm.

  • Burden of Proof Shifted:
    .

The new self-defense law in Ohio shifts the burden of proof to the prosecution to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you did not act in self-defense.
Castle Doctrine:
Ohio, like many other states, has a form of the castle doctrine, which means you have the right to defend yourself and your family from an intruder in your home or vehicle. To invoke the castle doctrine, you must have been in your home or vehicle when the intruder broke in and have a reasonable belief that you or your family was in immediate danger.

Wasn't too long ago in the South that if you were a black man and someone kicked your door in, it was the precursor to a lynching... So the poor guy was probably genuinely terrified! 3AM and your door getting kicked in??? What do they expect?

The homeowner should not be charged with anything.

The kids FAFO'd... doing something stupid to terrify a homeowner and damage property.

Fuck them.

Nuts. Finally watched it. This is what happens when your “kids” don’t have to get up at 4:30am to feed and milk the cows. Sad, but the shooter needs a better lawyer; he shouldn’t be sitting in jail from what was reported. I suppose if he shot through the door, he might have some explaining to do, but we don’t know all the facts.

Evil bastards arresting the homeowner.

These stupid idiot youth were going around acting like home invaders for stupid likes on the stupid interwebs.
Well you pretend to be home invaders you get treated like home invaders.

They got what they deserved for being stupid fools.

If their parents are upset, perhaps the homeowner should sue them for raising thug wannabes instead of decent folks.

They got what was coming on this one. Knocking on a door, or ringing a doorbell and burning off is a prank. Kicking in a door is breaking and entering. Destruction of property at the very the least.

We had a situation at my home in the wee hours of the morning a couple years ago. My wife woke me up saying she thought she had heard someone trying to get in the house through the front door. She had heard the door knob rattling a couple times. I sat in the living room with my 870 for a few minutes before moving outside to take a look around. If the front door had gotten kicked in I'd have dont the same thing.

Never did figure out what the cause of the noise at the front door was. Two big dogs live outside and they never made a peep.

We did find out the next day though, talking to a few neighbors that one of them had caught a guy parked in a jeep on their side of the neighborhood at 2am the same night we had our disturbance.

It was 2 am and I was alone. I awoke to some strange noises. Out of bed with Glock in hand I headed downstairs. About half way down I realized someone was trying to bust my door in. Massive adrenaline dump and seconds of terror.

At that time, our otherwise quiet neighborhood had been invaded by a crew of meth heads, next door. I did not have a good relationship with them, to say the least.

We all joke about home invasions but the truth is when you’re alone, barely dressed at 2 AM and someone’s trying to bust your door down. It’s a terrifying experience. Anyone who knows anything about gunfights knows that the likelihood of being shot in a gunfight, win or lose, is pretty high. There are no guarantees.

The common advice is to head back to your bedroom and call the police. But this is a small cottage and the thought of letting potentially armed criminals into my home to take control of the downstairs was a no-go for me. So slowly, I pressed on towards the door to keep them from coming inside, no matter what.

Fortunately I have had training and a reasonable amount of stress inoculation. Though the adrenaline dump and sudden rush of fear had hit me like a ton of bricks, I was able to remain calm and clear headed. Within a few moments I was able to ascertain it was two drunk out of their mind colleges girls at the wrong address. Without opening the door, I tried to tell them to go away, but they persisted in trying to break the door open. I called 911….

When the cops finally made it, as they entered my yard, I thought OK it’s over and I opened the door to speak with them. At this point, one of the girls lunged inside, trying to push past me. I held her for a few seconds, then I thought to myself I have hands on a strange college girl. I probably shouldn’t. One of the cops came in and grabbed her threatening to taze her because she was noncompliant.

I never went back to bed that night. Aside from the adrenaline dump that was taking its time to wear off, I couldn’t get out of my mind that I had forgotten to lock that door within the past week or two. Had these girls made it inside, there in the darkness, ignoring commands, bulling through the house they most certainly would’ve been shot……

I now have long guns at the ready, cameras and motion sensors. Of course a new DEI female 20 something Wyoming Warden moved in next door and she gave me a hard time about my “spy” cameras. Seems miss pissy pants thought she would burst into flames if a camera incidentally caught her in the background walking to her vehicle. The cameras stayed.

A few years ago three teenagers knocked on a locals door at 1am and said that their car had broken down and they needed to use a phone. The homeowner looked through a window and noticed one of them had an AR 15. He shot through the door and killed two of the teens. The third was hit but left the scene in the car. Several hours later he turned up at a hospital 60 miles away. Of course they called the police because of the gunshot injury and the police arrested him. He was charged with the deaths of the other two and no charges for the homeowner.
TN is a stand your ground and a castle doctrine state. Several years ago they extended the castle doctrine to your vehicle.

The prosecutor has no case.

The prosecutor has no case.

I'm sure they're quite adept at "making" a case when there isn't one. And, even if they can't, remember "the process is the punishment." If they can bleed the defendants dry, financially, over a case that will amount to nothing, they've achieved the mission. It will cause people to think twice before defending themselves.

It’s 3 am this morning. I awake to someone trying to breakdown a door.

Damn it! Shelby got shut in the damn downstairs closet again……🙄

Better watch your back, Shelby does not look amused.

That’s her sometimes resting bitch face. She is spoiled rotten. I got the big hero hug for rescuing her. Never mind, I’m the one that shut her in there by accident….shhhhh

A more loving people-pleaser, you never knew. Same with other animals. Bring your dog over, she’ll show it the food and water dish and watch while it snacks.

I have a similar fear that the HOA will make me take mine down, for similar reasons. Not happening.

Well she was a real c*nt about it. She only brought it up when I was asking one of her guest to move their vehicle out of my driveway. Fortunately she has since moved across town.

It really is rich, a Warden bitching about surveillance. Suffice to say I avoid her AO. Any interaction with her will be filmed.
