What would be the ideal distance from the barrel to set up the cronograph?

10-15 feet.

I set mine at 12 feet.

Between 8 and 20 feet. For pistol I use 10 feet. Rifle is 15. I have different colored zip ties at the different distances from the skyscreens. Just record what distance you use on the bottom of the page in your notebook so when you compare numbers you'll be using apples to apples.

I mark my distances as well, but with tape. Best crony tip I have learned. Anyone have any other good tips.

10 feet for most rifles for me. However, the 50 BMG will need at least 15 feet to give you some meaningful reads.

I take mine out to about 12 feet, sometimes further if the guy next to me seems to be throwing off my chrony
