So this fall I went to the local Humane Society to adopt a dog. I thought it was the right thing to do instead of buying one from a breeder, rescuing a stray and all that stuff they talk about. I found a year old yellow lab who was housetrained already and was very good with my little girl. Filling out the paperwork it asked for all your info including email address. For some dumb reason I slipped up and put my Army AKO address. Starting about a month ago I now get emails from 3 different save the whale, wolf, redheaded woodpecker and Sara Palin is a liar who wants to return to the Gestapo days of Bush type groups. Everytime you go to the unsubscribe tab on the email it says page not found, but you can send them an email to pledge donations. I sent them an email telling I supported the killing of wolves in any manner neccessary and suggested they get bent because I wasnt their target audience. Now I just get the emails daily from all 3 groups and for some reason I cant get AKO to block them(damn computer smart hippies). Just a warning for others dont give a real email address if you go to a pound to adopt an animal. At least the Lab has turned into a really good dog.

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

This is why you have multiple email addresses. My mom is a member of the Humane Society and PETA and I used to see tons of the crap they sent her in the snail mail. They seemed like an animal snuff organization because they always sent pics of cats and dogs who were mutilated by sick fucks. And as for donations......They beg just as much as the NRA. Good luck at getting them off your back and good for you at rescuing the lab.

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

So am I the only one who has puppies showing up in the yard or offered up by friends of co-workers?

Jbul,

What kind of song and dance did you have to perform to get the lab from the Humane society? House inspection? Agreement to allow surprise visits?

Try contactinf Tucker301 for help in getting you off those mailing lists. He has profound skills when it comes to these wvil machines and the world wide web!

Good luck

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

Actually the lady did say she wanted to see if my house had proper room for the dog to run around in. Told her I had a little less then 1/2 acre fenced in back yard and she got real lazy and never followed through on the checkup. If she would have I probably wouldnt have adopted the dog. There is enough intrusion into our lives from other (not trying to sound crazy) civil organizations, I didnt think the dog catcher needed in on it as well.

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

An author gave a presentation at a "Cattlemen's Association" meeting that I attended last week, and she spent the first 10 minutes explaining why HSUS is not our friend. Made a believer out of me....

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

I create an anti-spam email addy every few months, NEVER check it unless I need into a forum, then delete it.

Generally I tell them I don't do email or computers LOL (I'm a systems engineer with 6 email addy's including a .mil)...

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

Jared, I somehow got on the PETA mailing list after several polite phone calls asking them to stop sending me stuff I rounded up a bunch of pics of dead coyotes, deer, elk and any other bloody picture I could find and sent back to them in thier prepaid envelope. I think the got the message.

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

Funny story (kinda) the Memphis humane society employee's were busted for cruelty to animals? The head of the MHS skipped town when the warrants were issued but has since turned himself in. 1 vet and an assoc were let go. The dogs looked like shit!

Re: Do not trust the Humane Society

Had a cat once that showed up with a bite of unknown origin. Had to be one of my daughters'other cats but took the cat to the vet anyway. Turns out that the cat was three weeks overdue for her rabies shot. Under State law the vet had to report to the SPCA. SPCA sent out a young, female officer who wrote me a ticket for an unvaccinated cat. She proceeded to tell the wife and I that we had two choices. First, we could have the cat euthanized so that they could test for rabies or 2nd we could quarantine the cat for six months. Gave me plans for a cage to build with instructions to place it in the house where it could be seen through a window when they came out to check. I immediately replied that "I'm not threatening anyone but I need to point out that, as you can see, I live way out in the sticks. My nearest neighbor is 600 yards through the woods, you can't see my house from the country road I live on because I sit so far back in the woods. I am a gun owner and it isn't likely that I'm any more than 2 steps from a firearm when I'm home. I'm about half deaf from shooting without hearing protection as a young man. I can't hear the doorbell or a knock on the door. I live here with my wife and 2 daughters. You really don't want someone coming up here and peeking in my windows." She said that she understood and told me to have a nice day. I threw the plans away and never locked up the cat. I'm pretty sure that they never came out to check.
