I know they are fine on the polymer guns, If I wanted to put one on say a kimber tactical entry with the rail, would it scratch it? Thanks!

I've got a Surefire and a TLR. I would say you've got better chances of not scratching with a TLR since you don't have to slide (force) it on like the surefire.. but if you're worried about it don't put it on the safe queen

I have a TLR-2 on my MC Operator it has worn the coating of the very end of the rail.But I had to send the TLR to streamlight due to the laser flickering. I sent it through a streamlight dealer and when I received it back I put it on the gun and noticed it did not fit up snug. I looked it over and noticed it had been dropped on the area that locks onto the rail. I filed it back smooth and it works fine now, but it didn’t help the finish where I tried to attach it while it was bent. I carry the operator everyday and the coating is worn in other areas of the pistol a lot worse so its not something I loose sleep over.

I'm going from memory here as mine is at the house. Polymer cross block, polymer rails. It mounts by engaging one side of the mount, pulling the spring loaded block out and setting the other side. Then you tighten down the mounting screw and you're done.
You'll do more "damage" to your pistol by drawing it from the holster twice than you will by mounting this light twenty times.
Do with your weapon as you like, it's your money you spent and not mine, but try to remember it's a firearm and a tool that is meant to be used. I didn't say abused, just used. If you're worried about minor scratches, you'll never have any fun on the range. Usage marks are just character additions, not flaws. Enjoy!

I do agree with Redmanss. If you use you weapon to train with, clearing stoppages like stovepipes at real speed like your life depends on it the brass is doing more damage to the slide than the TLR will do to the rail.

My Insight M3X I have here at work is all polymer on the mount and cross lock, and it's been over three months since I've been home where my TLR1 and 3 are at so my memory has faded a bit. The TLR series are great lights though, much better with the LED than my M3X with the old style bulb.

Ok, this isn't going in the direction I thought it would. What I'm saying is on a nice gun, that will primariy be by my bedside, one that I don't plan on scratching, it may even stay in the safe...

You said you have a Kimber Tactical entry "blued pistol".
They are not blued, they have a coating called KimPro II frame finish. The frame and slides are stainless steel on your version.
I would say it may mark it up some but I would just run with it. The tacticals are nice but they are not a holy grail of a pistol, just use it, take care of it and don't worry about normal marks. When you realize that it is more fun to just use a weapon than to keep one as a safe queen, well.....You will just have more fun!
You have a weapon that was meant to be used and it has some good usable features. Use the piss out of it, shoot the hell out of it and just take care of it and slap that light on it and lay it on that night stand.
If you had a rare mint condition belgium Browning 9mm with imaculate blueing, thats one I would not mount a light on and thats the one I would keep as a safe queen and only bring it out in nice sunny weather, shoot and then clean and put it back in the safe.

So you don't want to scratch a gun that you intend to use in a defensive shooting by mounting a light to it, but you have no concern for the treatment it will inevitably receive in police evidence should that shooting occur....Brilliant.
BTW they don't use pistol rugs in the evidence lockers.

lol, ok, its a TLE/RL? thats tactical law enforcement with rail. my kydex holster does more damage to the finish than my TLR1 does. normal carry wear and tear does more damage.
