What issues?
The only thing the quickload people ever asked me was to mention that Quickload generated the data so people would know about it if they wanted to buy it.

The only thing the quickload people ever asked me was to mention that Quickload generated the data so people would know about it if they wanted to buy it.

BIG BROTHER is not only watching, but apparently writing as well. There are a few who have done that before. I have no issue with a mod changing or deleting something inappropriate, but to not ID who did it and why is kinda weak IMHO.

Whats the deal with these Quickload guys, really? Do they actually think their info is so exclusive and top secret with regard to handloading? Please. It's Reloading. I'm surprised anyone actually pays for this shit.

QL is a great product once tweaked for predicting outcomes and saves folks that use the OCW/OBT methods to find loads a lot of time and money for trial and error.
I've had good luck with their data, but am 0also one that is guilty of having others run my numbers. I'm just not in a position to pay $180 when I only load one load for each of a few calibers. Its worth it for wildcatters and folks that enjoy playing with different loads, but for a guy that wants one good load per caliber then tweak it to an individual rifle, I'll pass.
Mods should ID who made changes or took actions against folks, but that'd be Frank's call I guess.

I've used Quickload regularly for over fifteen years. It's very good for doing "what if" simulations. I would not ask someone else to run the program for me. There are too many variables which can only determined by having the bullets and rifle in hand, such as appropriate seating depth with the bullet set to match the barrel's throat.
QL will not predict whether a particular load will be accurate. It does not eliminate working up a load with a ladder test to find stable nodes. It's most useful for getting started on unusual cartridges or non-standard bullets or non-standard barrel lengths which aren't found in load books. It gives useful additional information like bore time and muzzle pressure which is not available from load books. I also find it useful for predicting performance when designing a rifle and selecting cartridges.
As with other computer simulations the output data is only as good as input data. It does take work to use it correctly.
Is QL worth the price? Yes if you like to experiment with specialized loads. It's not of much use if you just shoot standard loads in standard rifles.

I was going to ask a guy with QL to crunch THESE #'s for me.
I have a little rifle I'd like to build some day. I want to build a ULTRA light, long range deer rifle. if possible a 4lb?., 600++ yard deer hammer.
The concept: build a .284win or 7WSm on a LONG action. 7mm bullets for the BC. Long action so mag feeding super long VLD Hunting bullets, loaded to jam the lands will work and feed fine from the magazine. 7mm + short action cartridge + long action rifle = win,win,win.
a 18 or 20" L.Walther aluminum or other carbon wrapped barrel. = short,compact, light & handy. Magnum cartridge + short barrel hopefully equates long barrel non magnum cartridges range.
So for the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Quick Load</span></span> part: given a 18" barrel and a faster powder which 7mm short action cartridge would give the highest predicted velocity, awnd what predicted velocity is that? (the two heaviest 7mm Berger hunting VLD's) What about the same the same with a 20" barrel?

I figured some of the 60-odd cartridges in the QL db in the .280-7mm range -- like the 7mm Nambu -- were non-starters but I did look at probably half of the others. And running a different propellant table on that half along with with every individual .284 VLD bullet would have taken me through New Year's so I opted for just the 180-gr Berger VLD. Quick and dirty, I come up with nine different cartridges that are the class of the field from an 18" barrel. No clue which -- if any -- are short action cartridges:

7mm Rem Ultra Mag - 2725
7mm STW - 2809
7mm WSM - 2734

Looks like I can get at least full sized .308 ballistics out of my little bitty 7mm mag rifle.
According to Sierra bullet techs, >700 ft.lb's of energy is a good rule of thumb on whitetail deer. If I launch the 180 Berger Vld @ a mere 2500fps I got 1100lbs. or so @ 600yds @ 9 degrees ambient. It's a doable rifle. cool.
