Gunsmithing do you remove rem 700 barrel before cerakote

Re: do you remove rem 700 barrel before cerakote

leave it on, spray and bake, your done! If you take it apart then spray, once assembled your headspace will be off.

I will agree with you on that!

No need to remove a barrel for cerakote. It does pay to watch the barrel/action joint for seepage though.

I've never machined off a remmy barrel. I have taken a parting tool and made a cut just in front of the recoil shoulder of the barrel. It takes the pressure off the threads and makes things easier. Some of the older guns can be a little stubborn. Why wrestle with it if the barrel is a POS headed for the scrap tub anyway. Obviously, it's not an option on a barrel you intend to reuse.

Depends on the size of your blast cabinet too. It is easier to blast them seperately and reassemble. If done properly and head space rechecked on assembly it becomes a simple process. Paint them as an assembly. In order, disassemble, blast, clean, clean, clean, assemble, clean, bake, clean, clean, prep, clean, prep, paint, cook
