The reason I ask is that I would like to be able to swap my PT&G Tactical BDL bottom metal for AI mag bottom metal and back again depending on whether I am hunting or target shooting or go to a comp.
I currently have Surgeon bottom metal also, but the inlet needs to be deepened and widened for it to fit. So I have been looking for some other bottom metal that might fit a BDL inlet. (And I want to use the AI mags, not the Kwik Klip system)
Since I haven't seen any, is it even possible to use an AI mag in a standard inlet. Placing the mag in the inlet, it looks like there is plenty of room for bottom metal if it is steel. Seems most everyone makes there AI bottom metal out of billet aluminun, so the bottom metal is necessarily thicker for additional strength with the aluminum.
It doesn't seem like it would be a problem for steel AI mag bottom metal to be made to fit the standard BDL inlet. Also looks like it would be a great seller, since anyone with a BDL could just swap out the bottom metal without having to deepen and widen the inlet of the rifle. I guess there would be a bit of additional weight, but to me a few to several extra ounces is not a problem.
Is this possible?
Thanks, BLK7
I apologize for lack of info. I'm running a Stiller Tac 300 Long Action and want to be able to switch between my current BDL setup and AI single stack mags.
