Gunsmithing Does anyone make AI mag bottom metal for BDL inlet

The reason I ask is that I would like to be able to swap my PT&G Tactical BDL bottom metal for AI mag bottom metal and back again depending on whether I am hunting or target shooting or go to a comp.

I currently have Surgeon bottom metal also, but the inlet needs to be deepened and widened for it to fit. So I have been looking for some other bottom metal that might fit a BDL inlet. (And I want to use the AI mags, not the Kwik Klip system)

Since I haven't seen any, is it even possible to use an AI mag in a standard inlet. Placing the mag in the inlet, it looks like there is plenty of room for bottom metal if it is steel. Seems most everyone makes there AI bottom metal out of billet aluminun, so the bottom metal is necessarily thicker for additional strength with the aluminum.

It doesn't seem like it would be a problem for steel AI mag bottom metal to be made to fit the standard BDL inlet. Also looks like it would be a great seller, since anyone with a BDL could just swap out the bottom metal without having to deepen and widen the inlet of the rifle. I guess there would be a bit of additional weight, but to me a few to several extra ounces is not a problem.

Is this possible?

Thanks, BLK7

I apologize for lack of info. I'm running a Stiller Tac 300 Long Action and want to be able to switch between my current BDL setup and AI single stack mags.

My version is the same as the BDL on the ends. Only the magwell corners, rear pillar height, and the magwell needs to be cut some in the front for it to fit. Detailed specs are provided.

Most manufacturers will provide a drawing with specs so it is easy if you have a Milling machine with a DRO.

My Magnum version is a drop in fit to the BDL Long action. But that mag is single stack.

We also have Titanium versions in the works.

Surgeon did supply a drawing with specs, but I don't want to open up the mag well or change the pillar height. I will look at your magnum version that is a drop in for the BDL long action. That is exactly what I am looking for. A Long action BDL drop in for AI single stack mags.

Thanks.

Do the 338 Lapua Mags and 300 Win mag AI magazines basically the same regarding external dimensions? I mean will they both fit the magnum BDL bottom metal. I remember the 338 mag being a little longer and the ribs on the 300 mag make it narrower inside. Just trying to remember if either will fit the same bottom metal.

Oops!!

Guess I should have been a little more specific. I am running a long action (Stiller Tac 300) and want to use AI single stack mags on occasion.

I can get 2 rounds comfortably in the BDL setup which is fine for hunting and most everything else. Just would like to have 5+1 capability and a quick reload by swapping bottom metal.
