Lots of br shooters are recomending owl ear front 'rest bags. What about pillow or brick bags? Anyone useing them? If so, can you tell me the good & the bad? Am I giving up quite a bit in accuracy? Thanx.

Re: Does anyone use pillow or brick bags atop tripod

as in make a place for your rifle so you can shoot?

Most only use a tripod if they need to clear obstructions near the firing position. For most folks a tripod support beats sling only.

I use an adaptor topped with a PVC trough, its bottom lined with several layers of leather to better fit my rifle's forearm.

For me it just seems to steady the rifle a bit better than just a sandsock on the tripod. I cant shoot a sub moa group on a tripod but out to 600 yards its good enough for minute of man or deer. (Coyote might be a bit iffy)

Good Luck

As others have said using a tripod like this is akin to cheating

I made a couple of smaller profile tops lined with poron foam tape and am experimenting with a top with a Protector #2 front bag strapped on. I need to make another top for the bag. Just a piece of aluminum with a 1/4" PEM nut pressed in.

I made this one for my daughters moose hunt (as in the night before). It works but could be a much better design. You don't need the large surface area just something to steady the forearm of the rifle. I use the tripod to brace against as well but again I am just shooting a 22LR this last couple of months since working on new designs.
