Range Report Dope Help .300WM

I'm headed to AK in 5 days with a new rifle. I know it's not my first choice to head off after mean bears with a new rifle, but it is what it is. After testing all kinds of bullets I have just settled on the Black HIlls 180 TSX over my Partition/Accubond hand loads. They shoot great anyway.

What I can't figure out is that out of my 24" barrel Black Hills states they are doing 2950' muzzle with a .453bc. At 300 all my programs say 1.0-1.15mils at 300.
I'm dead nuts zero at 100 yards. I'm .21 mils high at 300 and I can't figure out why.

Could someone help me with some rough numbers out to 650 yards if .8 mils is my come ups for 300 yards?



My only guess is that the fps Black Hills gave me is off? My chrono is not worth a shit either.

Can I just increase my fps until my program shows .8 mils at 300? Will the rest be accurate past 300 if I do it this way?

the speed is the speed.....if thats what the chrono told you......you did use a chrono .....right?

if so, you may wish to degrade the BC to approximate the actual field observations.......

Have you checked your scope to make sure it tracks correctly?

Have you run it over your chrono? I would try even if you think it's not worth shit.

You would have to be close to 3150fps to get .8 mils at 300 yards. That's pretty fast.

No I have not actually chrono'd it yet.
I'm running a March 3-24 and it tracks good.
Black Hills said they have tested this load a million times and it's 2950fps.
That does not give me .8 mils at 300.

I guess I'm going to have to break my chrono out and see what it's doing. 3150 seems smokin to me.

Yeah it does seem fast. Breaking out the chrono is the only way to really know.

Yup have to head back to the range tonight. Primers looked good so I don't think they are loaded hot. I'll have to look up and see if 3150 would be a hot load in a 300WM. I'm a 6.5 .308 guy and haven't messed with a 300WM much at all, so who knows it may be a normal fps.

3150fps is possible with a 180grn bullet but shouldn't be that high if BH states it should be in the 2950fps area. Let us know what you get when you chrono it.

I was able to achieve 2904 with 77.0 gr of H1000 and a 220 SMK so ya I would see it possible some how with a 180. I do have a 26 inch barrel. Chrono the rounds though as see what they really are doing.

What are you using for atmospheric conditions and how tall is your scope above your bore center line?

And just to be sure I understand, you are 2.25" high at 300 yards after dialing in 1.0 mils?

I don't know about the hunting line of BH but the last batch of 190 match in 300wm was going 3025 from my 26" PSS.

I've pushed a 180 3100+ out of a 300WM with handloads. It is doable. Don't trust what the box says. It most likely is off. Their velocity will get you close so go with your known come-ups. Just remember, your come-ups now in warmer temps will be different than in AK when it's cooler, and possibly higher elevation.

if it helps at all, Im shooting 208 Amax with 71g of Reloader 22 and getting 2870fps, with a 1.07 mil drop at 300yds

3150 is really scooting out of a 300WM. I am pushing 180 Accubonds for elk at 3000 and they are "warmish"

I recently tried some Reloader-17 in my Rem 700 CDL 26"barrel 300 Win Mag.I loaded 72.5grs,WLRM primer,Win cases,Speer Deep Curl 180gr bullet,Chronographed @ 3215fps.My groups were 1/2" or less at a 100,but I still need to do more testing farther out.I started this load at 71.0grs @ 3100fps,then 72.0 @ 3180fps and stopped at 72.5grs @ 3215fps,where my groups were the tightest.Another load that worked good with 180gr bullets in this rifle was 77.5grs of Reloader-22.It gives me great groups as well and my velocities run just over 3100fps.

3150fps is not that far fetched. I run 3130 fps with McMillan 190 Match out of my 26in AI. If you run with a 200m zero you can engage out to 800m with just Mil holds all inside 5 mils.

Hmm, maybe I need to go back and tinker with the load a little and see if I can squeeze a little more out of it.

For what it's worth, Ramshot is showing 3192 with a 180 Sierra out of a 24" barrel.
I would check your center of scope to center of bore, as ask above, also.
