I’m not sure where to ask this question, or if it’s been discussed .............move me or refer me elsewhere if necessary.
In the context of not bothering my neighbors which are .3 to .5 miles from shooters position .
I wonder if a brake dissipates hearable noise downrange like it redirects recoil(gas)....... simply stated.... is a good brake quieter than a bare muzzle 800 yards in front of or to the side of a shooter?.....comments on the sonic boom downrange with or without a can might also be relevant.
Thanks

It will still be loud with the sonic boom down range. If youve ever been perpendicular to shooting at a range or out hunting with other people in the area and heard the bullet travel left to right you will see just how its loud the whole way down. And impacts are loud too.

Cans get rid of the explosion coming out of the barrel by acting as an expansion chamber so its got less pressure on it when introduced to the atmosphere, they reduce the pressure of the pop, they dont do anything about the sonic boom for the entire trip of the bullet.

Thanks for the comments and YouTube reference.....
After looking at the YouTube links I found another fellow on there who pretty much answered my question perfectly..
His YouTube handle is the social regressive .....he backed up from the camera/microphone in 100 yard increments to 600 yards.shooting at each distance both suppressed and unsuppressed.....I could not tell much difference at all in the sonic boom sound..... but the muzzle pop of course got quieter the further from the camera he got...

I expect it would have been the same with a brake.....just louder near the shooter

Those are great vids. Literally sounds like the sonic boom from the traveling bullet is the same no matter where you are downrange........now I wonder about 90 degrees to the side? Probably quieter the farther away you are.......
