DPMS and Armalite barrel interchangability?

I have been doing research on the net on this subject.The manufacturer says no of course but several have done it. They stated that it will work because the 2 rifle were based off the same specs.One thing different is the Armalite gas tube is longer.I know the barrel nuts are different. Some say if you use an Armalite barrel on a dpms upper use an Armalite Bolt carrier group. Some say if it headspaces let her eat. Have any of you guys had any experience with this?

You can put an Armalite barrel in a "DPMS" format upper, it is done frequently, and is how my 338 Federal MaTen came to be. The trick with the large frame AR's is the Barrel maker must match the bolt carrier maker. In other words, Armalite barrel = Armalite BCG, and vise verse for DPMS. They apparently use two slightly different specs for the bolt and thusly don't mix and match.

Also as you mentioned Armalites gas tube is a bit longer, and must be used when using an Armalite barrel.

This is correct. The tail of the DPMS bolt is longer than the Armalite. Each BCA will fit in the others upper receiver. The differences in bolts means you can't mix and match the carrier and bolt, i.e., don't try to use Armalite barrel and bolt and DPMS carrier or vice versa. Check your head space to be safe and have at it.

You'll have far more options using the "dpms" format, and parts are more plentiful. It took 8 months of looking, and eventually offering over retail on a forum to get my Armalite BCG. Where as I had seen several DPMS ones come and go.

Basically Armalite and Noveski use Armalites format barrel/BCG, and only Armalite manufactures it. Where as the DPMS format is manufactured by multiple companies in numerous finishes.

Well i put an Armalite barrel on a DPMS reciever and DPMS BCG.It headspaced .003 over go.It fired flawless and groups were good.Thanks for all the replys. From what i have found out.You can not change BCG components between manufacturers.But what ever you do if you change barrels you must headspace. Do not short cut headspacing.
