I am currently breaking in a DPMS LR 308B. It is one of the models with a High rail upper. I have already swapped the regular stock for a PRS, and put on a rifle length FF tube.

I am curious to know what other Hide members have done in terms of rings and scopes on this upper??? I need to upgrade to a "real" scope and rings from what I threw on just to break in the gun. Pictures of your set up would be great.

Tnx

VTAC FF tube, JP adjustable gas block, JP trigger springs, & and Vortex 1-4x24 scope. This is my truck gun and works well in this capacity. Now all it needs is a suppressor.

looks like a nice gun...., however, it does not appear to have the high rail upper that DPMS put out

I agree with you, however, I bought the gun as factory stock, and it came with that bloody high rail upper. As a result, I am trying to figure out what mounts would be the best based on user experience.
I really do not want to swap out the upper on the gun....if I do that, then I might as well build/buy another upper and sell the one I got.

CS tactical has A3 type uppers for $180. Far cry from the cost of a complete upper. That being said, I would think low/medium rings would work on yours, since that was what it was designed for.

Re: DPMS LR 308 and 308B

Surplus Ammo and Arms has stripped DPMS 308 Uppers for $89.99, sell the high rise for $100 and call it a day!

If you don't want to do that pick up some low rings, the upper is so high that even with a good size bell you shouldn't have any issues. You could get medium size rings seeing as you have an adjustable check weld (PRS) but I don't know that that is necessary.

JP Handguard
JP Trigger
JP Benny Cooley muzzle brake
JP adjustable gas block
Magpul PRS with extended buttpad
Accu Shot BT13-QK monopod
Phase 5 EBRv2
Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm FFP
Burris Xtreme Tac 30mm medium rings

I have just about 1/4" worth of clearance between the bottom of the scope bell and the handguard. Low mounts would be very tight on my rifle. I think the riser height on the uppers is 0.6in IIRC.

Re: DPMS LR 308 and 308B

It looks like medium height rings is what I will probably need, even going with a large scope.

I am curious though why Cuff and Pat are using a Badger base??? Is this to get to 20moa cant ??? or is there some other reason??

Bunsen,

Thanks for the info and the foto. Nice looking gun.
I am curious how you like the monopod on the PRS??? I did install a PRS with the extended buttpad and have considered the monopod.

I like it a lot actually! It's a little wobbly for bench work when fully extended IMO, but where it shines is at rapid target transitions in a competition setting. It has coarse adjustment via button and fine adjustment by twisting it so it's really quick to set and fine tune. I also like that it's attached to the rifle so it's one less thing I have to remember to pack for a match or retrieve after a stage. I have the BT13-QK and have found it to be the proper height for 98% of the situations I've encountered. I can think of one instance where the monopod was too short so I just gripped it lower and used my fist to make up the difference and another instance where the monopod was too long. All in all a great piece of kit for a PRS stock on an AR platform rifle!

Re: DPMS LR 308 and 308B

Yes Toshu, I run the the Badger base for the cant it provides. I have an IOR 6-24x50 which only has 50moa total adjustment so the cant was needed to reach 1000 on my LR308b. The base in conjuction with the med rings also provides the perfect amount of height for me to feel comfortable behind the scope.

Thanks for the confirmation. I assume that depending on the scope I ultimately buy, I may or may not need it.....that will be the next question to start honing in on.

Re: DPMS LR 308 and 308B

Bunsen,

Thanks for your feedback. I am still just shooting off the bench and do not have a final FF tube defined/configured and therefore do not have a bipod mounted. Once I settle on the bipod set up, then I think I will go with an appropriately sized monopod.
