I am one of those impulsive types who rush out and buy something then regret it later. I went out last summer and bought my first big rifle (at the time the wife said I could only ever have one, that has since changed) and I bought a DPMS LR-308B (18" bull barrel).

It was fun getting into it, but since then I have spent enough time at the range to have tried out other weapons and also find where I want to go. I want a bolt action but cannot justify the cash right now, so am going to have to sell my LR-308B. I do not have the pre-requisite posts on here yet so and just looking for any advice/guidance on pricing for a private sale locally (NY). The only upgrades are a JP trigger and PRS stock and has about 300 rounds down it so far.

Any tips would be appreciated - I was thinking somewhere around the $1000 mark, but I really am not sure how well these things hold their value?

thx

Re: DPMS LR-308 pricing

Your price sounds about right.

They're nice guns if you can hang on to it, but if you have to let it go, I think you'd be fair where you've got it ($1K).

Good luck.

Re: DPMS LR-308 pricing

A year ago it was worth more than today as many people were paying absurd premiums for these. Given today's high rate of unemployment, limited credit and the depletion of personal savings of many people, coupled with the ramped up production of these weapons (due to the insane demand of a year ago) the prices are down somewhat.

Check out some of the online gun auction sites like gun broker.

Personally, I'd keep it and save up for the bolt gun, mounts, rings and glass you want. Or sell something else to raise the dough.

You'll miss it when it's gone...

Re: DPMS LR-308 pricing

I just sold (last week) a DMPS 308 with a 24" bull barrel, JP trigger parts, Ergo grip, tac latch, and a Falcon Menace 4x14x44 scope and rings. I sold it for $1300 on arfcom. Mine had a regular ol A2 stock though - yours has the PRS which is an upgrade.

I don't think you'll have any problem selling it at that price.

Re: DPMS LR-308 pricing

look on gunsamerica.com too. also look and see what DPMS would charge for it. you can use their site to build a rifle, adding your stock and other options. that should give you a good idea where to start. and start high, you can always ask for less. but you have to add $200 for that stock or sell it seperate. same with the trigger, pull it and sell it for $10-$20 less than new. sell the rifle as it was stock. sell the extras as a premium, since they are

Thanks for the advice! I will do some poking about on gunsamerica and gunbroker to cross-reference some pricing

Re: DPMS LR-308 pricing

the PRS would bring $175-$250 here or anyplace used. the trigger, $10-$20 less than list. then list the rifle for new price. start there you can always drop %10 or so
