Looking for some firsthand information on this rifle. I have heard good things and I would just like to get some more tid bits from people who have actually puts rounds through this rifle. any gripes (too heavy, jamming problems, inconsistant accuracy, etc) and any good attributes are appreciated.

Re: DPMS Panther REPR

Just got a DPMS LR-308, 24" fluted barrel. I cleaned and lubed before firing. Shoots good but fed terrible. Only put 17 rounds down-range, three others were dented by jams.
Turn out the bolt is REALLY tight in the carrier, so it short strokes. Spent this morning cleaning and lubing the bolt, moving it by hand till it loosens some. I can actually get it to move by hand now.
Talked to customer service, will have to send the mags back for replacement. They SAY they they fire each one, but mine was completely DRY BCG, with NO wear marks on anything. 17 rounds and I can now see the wear where the finish has worn off. The gas rings are now loose enough that I can push the bolt in and out by hand. I'm using m1 for lube, hypoid oil for lugs and carrier slides, just like I do for pistol.

Re: DPMS Panther REPR

as far as i can tell, the REPR is still in preproduction, only heard of a few getting out to the public. i used to work there so i have one

great rifles. i built mine when they were still deciding on who was going to provide the bbls for them. I got mine from Kreiger(24" bull in sst chambered for .260rem). i couldnt tell you for sure who they ended up going with for the bbls.
mine is a great rifle. i'v used it the last two years deer hunting, even took a couple on the run off hand with it. its a .308 platform so its not going to be lite. but with the stock bbl on the REPR its going to be on the low end weight wise for a .308 platform rifle.
as far as mine? no malfunctions. runs smooth as hell, and its a tack driver turning in 5 shot groups well under .3MOA

Re: DPMS Panther REPR

I purchased one of these 3 weeks ago and mounted a NXS 5.5-20x50 in high NF rings on it. I'm still doing break inand cannot find anything to gripe about so far. I do have arriving today...versapod and picatinny adapter, 10 round mags, and a JP Bennie Cooly break. When I find a round I'm happy with, ill post the results.

Overkill, very nice, have you ever ran 168 FGMM's through ito see how it groups?

Best advise on mag and feeding issues, go PMAG and dont look back. I have 360 rnds down range through mine no issues what so ever.

The barrel. REPR uses a rifle length gas system with a lighter contour than the bull mid length found on the SASS. The Handguard is a little lighter as well (cutouts are bigger on the REPR) The REPR also comes standard with the Hogue grip and a two stage trigger as opposed to the SASS JP adjustable and the Panther Tactical grip. All in all the REPR weighs 2 lbs less than an SASS. Oh and you can get the REPR in FDE

Re: DPMS Panther REPR

Contrary to the DPMS web site, mine actually came with the JP trigger and the Harris bipod. I like the trigger, it works well for me(like I would know any better.) The Harris and adapter went to the junk drawer. I emailed DPMS asking about the difference in cost between the SASS and the REPR before I purchased...no answer yet. I was hoping the rumour on the Kreiger barrel wasn't fiction and was a large part of the cost difference. All in all, for my first AR10/LR308 type rifle, I'm pleased. When I have time to find the magic 168AMAX & Varget mix, I'll be very happy.

Re: DPMS Panther REPR

Shooting 140 Bergers at 100 yards is like Driving Miiss Daisy to Mass in an F40 Ferarri.

My goodness! Shoot those fine, long range bullets at 800 yards and farther. There is just no way what you're seeing at 100 yards is 140 Berger VLD performance. That is shooter and rifle and ammo.

They make cool, expensive, flat-based bullets for 100yd benchrest shooting - and calibers too for that matter - like 22PPC.
