I'd like to hear your experiences with your DTA's in regard to how well it returns to zero after removing the barrel.

I've got 338LM and 308win conversions with mine, and have yet to do any testing to this end. I plan to spend an afternoon firing a shot, swap conversion, fire a shot, swap back. I'm curious if any of you have already done this.

One of the things I constantly see referenced in regard to the cost of this system is how you can have multiple barrels and it "saves space in the safe" and so forth. If you cannot switch the barrel and not have to re-zero each time... it wouldn't be nearly so useful to take other conversions in the field with you. Don't get me wrong, even if they have to be zeroed every time you swap, it is still nice, but I'd like to see some scientific results from a few other DTA owners.

Those of you with DTA's, how well do they return to zero after you remove the barrel, and put it back in?

Re: DTA SRS - Return to zero results

You can do the Zero offsets to get a field zero when switch caliber. I do that when I swich to different ammo.

Re: DTA SRS - Return to zero results

I've got .338LM and 12.7X48 (.510 W) and switch barrels frequently. The zero for each barrel stays the same but the zero between the barrels is different. I've got the number of clicks to change written down and its been very consistant. Dialing the scope back to the zero for the .338 barrel and putting the barrel back in results in a dead center repeatable zero. The 12.7 varies a bit but thats due to ammo and load development screwing with me. Its been elevation on that one.

Hope that answers the question.

Yes that does, very much. I expected different barrels to be different zero. The purpose to this thread was to see how well it returned to that zero after the barrel had been removed.

Seems promising so far.

Re: DTA SRS - Return to zero results

The return to zero has been tested and tested and passed!!

Zero your largest caliber, then swap barrels and shoot at same poa. Measure that impact shift and that is your zero for that swapped caliber. Swap back to larger caliber and poi will go right back to original poi if you do your part. The DTA system is awesome!!

Thanks

May I ask why? My procedure was different - I zeroed for the caliber with the lowest drop, so that I don't have to change zero-stop when switching barrels. <span style="font-style: italic">I mean - for the other barrel I'd just click a few tens of mil up and a few to the side, leaving zero-stop where it is.
