So I've looked all around for something decent and I really like the barska tactical tri-rail scopes which I'll probably get and mount a red dot or reflex on it.

But I think when it comes down to me spending a good amount I would only go with this setup - http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-1x-4x-24mm-xtr-xtreme-tactical-illuminated-riflescope.html with the burris QD scope mount and the red dot sight.

and thats only if I get pretty good at shooting and were to try out for a 3-gun competition.

Xris, no on the barska save your money until you can get something a little better. By the way no need to mount a mini red-dot or reflex on it on something like that. Burris is a much better option but thats pretty pricey and theres several better options when you are willing to spend that much. What about something along these lines to get you started.

Forget about the Barska, those things are complete crap. Trust me I tried one and its best use was as a target. The burris you mentioned is a good option also but there are better out there. I have a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 on my LR308 and it works out well. For what you are after look for an optic that at least has matching turrets and reticle.

Not bad I like it. Anyone else have any good suggestions within a decent price range.

What about these prismatics scopes?

I like my leupold vx3 1-4 about 225.00 if you go to swfa and get one of there demos, then send to leupold and have them make custom drops for your round. Mine go from 200 to 600 yds at 100yds dots.

Re: Dual optics for my AR-15.

Ya I like that one but are the ones I posted just above any good?

Bear in mind that if you run a scope and a red dot site, you will get bumped to open. You'll be shooting against guys running race pistols and shotguns with X-Rails and speed loaders. If you're shooting a scope with 1 power there's rarely a need for a red dot site. But, if you want to run 2 optics, put the red dot on a low 45 degree mount, not above your primary optic. You maintain your cheek weld and rotate the rifle to switch optics, it's much faster than trying to use a chin weld and move your head.

This is what I'm running, it's hard to beat for the price.

The only one of these I've shot is the Leupold Prismatic, it was a nice piece of glass but fixed power. Having a 1-4 or 1-6 is good, although there are some that run fixed power optics like an Acog.
