Ear Pro - need better

I'm currently using a pair of 3M Peltor Optime II.
They're comfortable enough, but I struggle to hear people talking with them on.
They don't seem to be massively effective on the outdoor range either (shooting under cover), when peeps next to me are shooting the larger calibres.
So I'm after suggestions, preferably ones that won't break the bank (under $100 if possible), but ones that will do a better job than what I have at the moment.
So - what can be had for under $100 that's better than what I'm using?
TIA 😁

Not sure on UK pricing but at that level and with those requirements a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sport (~$54) with add on gel pads (like PROHEAR ~$19) and good fitting foam earplugs ( ~$10 for 50 pairs) under them.

The thing about most sub $100 ear pro is that when they detect gunfire, they shut off the electronics completely.....turning them into regular muffs.

If you need to just hear people while wearing them, the HL impact sports are great.

But if you need to actually hear people while there is gun fire.....you are going to have to pony up for Peltor defenders or MSA sordins, as those will take the gun fire and attenuate down to hearing safe levels while keeping the electronics on
