I have a really good coupon to Eberlestock and I want to get one of these packs. Anyone have some suggestions or experience? Will be carrying a Rem 5r with optics.

Operator Pack (G4M)
Phantom Pack (G3M)
Gunslinger Pack (GS05M)
Gunslinger II Pack (G2M)

Re: Eberlestock pack advice

I've owned the Phantom, Gunslinger II, and X1 with the Gunslinger II being my favorite pack thus far. When I had the Phantom I found it to be too big for my needs, which was packing gear for one or two day comps and I saw no benefit to having a removable scabbard. All too often I found myself packing in way too much equipment so I looked to downsize. I tried the X1 and while the cargo capacity was just about perfect, as well as the layout, the scabbard was just too narrow to my liking. When the Gunslinger II came out it looked like the perfect option for me. It had a reasonable amount of cargo space, enough for just about any comp I go to or a weekend trip to the beach. The scabbard is permanently attached and the wider bottom allows the rifle to be carried buttstock up or down. The top pouch configuration is great for items that you need quick access to, I usually keep the data book, rear bag, and one or two mags up top during competitions. The only annoying bit I'd say is the amount of straps but it does allow you to compress the cargo areas considerably to keep everything stable.

Which pack is best is entirely up to you and what you intend to do with it. If you were just looking at range trips and what not then I'd say get the Gunslinger II, however if you are planning to use this operationally (multi-day missions) then I'd say get the Operator.

Re: Eberlestock pack advice

Without knowing your specific application(s) then it's hard to give you perfect advice. However, to piggyback on some of the previous comments, I believe the most versatile pack in the Eberlestock lineup is the Gunslinger II. It isn't too big & heavy to interfere with day long shoots, hikes, etc. The layout is intuitive & functional. Arguably the best feature is the "wide mouth" integrated rifle scabbard that will accomodate large rifles with optics to AR15s to AR10s.

There are a number of packs in Eberlestock's lineup that can fit just about any application. Let us know what your main applications are & I can give you a more accurate recommendation.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Eberlestock pack advice

I got the 1st older version of Gunslinger & I like it and I still use it a lot . but the 'new revised version' sold is pretty KickAss. they really did some nice changes and cleaned-up the design.
Phantom is pretty nice also but the Skycrane I think is the Cadillac of there offering in packs . Skycrane is real friggin BIG & beefy. it's got all the bells and whistles & it's a real nice production pack. Did I say it was Big ? haha
I really checked-out there pack pretty close when I bought the Gunslinger back then. They are not the most Hard-Core but it's reinforced good and stitched pretty fair on the Binding . Gunslinger is a good pack & Eberlestock looks like they keep there CQ up pretty well also for there consumer. I been dragging mine around for about 3 years and besides the dirt it is not in bad shape.

Re: Eberlestock pack advice

I've never owned a gunslinger but I love my phantom. I, too, thought real hard about the gunslinger but figured I could use the extra room. It comes in handy because, for some reason, I always find more stuff that I "need" to bring along. The other day, a friend and I hiked back into a wilderness area about 5 miles and I easily fit my rifle along with everything else I needed for a long day with extra just in case we spent the night.

Re: Eberlestock pack advice

Not knowing what you will be using your pack for but looking at your choices, I would guess that you are undecided if you need the extra space or a removable scabbard.

For me I don't find the removable scabbard useful, because if you are packing light and just bringing your rifle and limited gear, you can always use the extra space for ammo, and hydration packs.

If you are undecided if you need the extra room, and want a pack that is versatile...I would suggest also looking at the Dragonfly. That's the one I use, and like the most. It goes from 2900 cubic inches and expands to 5400 cubic inches, with a duffel you can expand to 7900 cubic inches. Plus the top pack comes off, which you can use it as a large fanny pack for hydration or gear. The only down size, which can also be a good aspect depending on your use and preference, is the lack of PALS webbing on the back of the pack. However it has enough PALS webbing on the belt and sides for my liking, including enough room on side to add a side scabbard.

Re: Eberlestock pack advice

Ok I think I am going to get the Gunslinger II. So color.

Dark Earth
Ranger Green
Unicam

Narrowed it down to these. Be doing gun matches and camping/hunting trips. Unicam is ok but I really like how the Dark Earth goes with a lot of urban. Ranger is always a good stand by.
