Eberlestock Phantom vs Operator

I am trying to decide between the two. I have used the Phantom and it is good for 70% of what I do. The Operator would cover the remaining 30%. Is the extra bulk of the Operator going to cause me grief when I don't need the capacity?

Anyone with experience with both?

no you will love the operator, thats the exact switch i just made and couldn't be happier, the operator has more compression straps so it actually packs down smaller if neccessary.

sidenote check out the unicam pattern it is virtually just digital multicam and blends very well in many different enviroments.

I actually moved from the Operator to the Phantom. Both are great packs. I found the Operator a little too big and heavy for one day field matches, which is what I was using it for. Ceylon had the Phantoms for sale with the Spanish special forces camo so I went for that. The Phantom I have found to be just the right size for this use. I just comes down to how much stuff you need to carry. The rifle scabbard is the same size. It is permanently attached on the Operator and removable on the Phantom. Definitely talk to and buy from Ceylon. That is who I bought my packs from. You will not find a nicer and more professional person to business with.

I sold my phantom once I got my operator. I love the horizontal sinch straps that the operator has and the phantom lacks. The operator is a more verstitle pack in my eyes. You can use one large compartment ot split it with the internal zipper divider.

Between the operator and the gunslinger 2, they cover all the bases that I need.

The Operator is a huge pack. While you can put just about a whole house into it. A have a Phantom myself and wouldn't get any bigger. Yesterday I loaded mine with my bolt gun, ammmo box for it, 4 magazines for my AR15, my SBR attached to the side, and all the other ancillary stuff I use when I go shooting.

Both the Phantom & Operator are fantasitc packs, each having their strengths & weaknessess when it comes to fulfilling certain uses & applications. What are YOUR intended applications? We can recommend one of these packs based on your answer.

25% day trips to range or one day shoots. The pack is the range bag, lunch bag and extra clothes bag.
45% weekend hunting trips away from home. I like to have everything in one pack but I can take stuff out when I head to the blind or during stalk. The borrowed Phantom Was loaded when I left the house.
30% multiple day trips with everything for trip packed in it. These trips usually involve 24-48 hours away from "the world".

In addition to clothes and the specific load, an I-phone, an I-pad, field optics, two GPS units, rain gear and a small medical kit always go with me. It is nice to have them easily accessible. It was not so easy with the Phantom, but not impossible if I made some improvements.

Ceylon, I am going to order one or the other in Dry Earth this week.
