was making a cabela order when i fell a few bucks short for the $30.00 off so i order this stuff called scope dope.

it's a lens cleaner / anti fog agent that has the consistancy of carnuba wax, directions say to get any abrasives off lense, apply the stuff with a dab on your finger and rub.

wipe off with a soft cloth, and your done. so i did my glasses first, (as they are cheaper than most of my scopes)

WOW! really clean, did an excellent job. i then wondered about the anti fog claim, so i put them in the freezer for a minute, put 'em on, and oh damn they fogged up.

so i put it on my scopes as the cleaning part worked, my scopes haven't been that clear an bright for a while! works very, very well in that capacity.

went turkey hunting this morning, a little chilly and damp. when it started getting light, i shouldered the rifle, a directed little bit of my breath toward the eyebell, sure as crap it fogged.

so...from 1 to 5 on the cleaning scale, i give it a 5
from 1 to 5 on the antifog scale i give it a 1.

but worth $5.00 to be able to clean the lense as well as it did.

You should get the abrasives off FIRST before applying something with the viscosity wax and then rubbing it around. You might as well rub the lens with your finger and scrape the abrasives off, you might do less damage. With the cleaner, it keeps the abrasives trapped, and scouring as you rub it around and then rub it off with the cloth.

Eyeglasses have anti-glare/anti-reflection coatings and polarizing films on them. They have a purple/green hue to them when viewed at an angle and serve the same purpose even if its marketed differently: increase light transmission and reduce internal reflection.

Personally I would stick with manufacturer suggested cleaning regiments and chemicals to keep it in warranty. USO likes acetone. My Nikkor lenses are cleaned with optical lens cleaning fluid and lens tissue. Glasses get a microfiber cloth and a puff of breath to fog it up. Glasses have a tougher surface coating because you're expected to clean them several times a day and they're always exposed. Camera and rifle optics are covered up when not in use.

Re: EK "SCOPE DOPE" LENS CLEANER

There are several very knowledgeable optics people around here one has suggested acetone that they used in NASA related projects. He is probably correct but, I just did not have the guts to just acetone on my optics. I went to a place that calibrates/repairs/builds microscopes and astronomical telescopes. They use Pancro Lens Cleaning Fluid and disposable lens cloths. I did some more checking with people in the movie industry and they said the use the same thing exclusively, also with the same disposable lens cloths, of course with the proper procedure. Both sources did not approve of micro cloths or the other end of a lens pen (opposite the brush).

I thought my lens were clean, well the Pancro really made a huge difference, so for what it worth. It’s probably another one of those religious hotly debated issues like what to use to clean a barrel.

Re: EK "SCOPE DOPE" LENS CLEANER

Any particular type/brand of lens cloth or lens tissue along with the Pancro? I'm curious now.

I'm also not sure how pure acetone from the hardware store is compared to (what I assume) reagent-grade acetone used in a laboratory environment.

Re: EK "SCOPE DOPE" LENS CLEANER

I have been using Rosco lens tissue, comes in packs of 100 for about $5.00. I try to avoid having to clean a lens as much as possible. Of course a air puff to remove particles (if canned air is used I was advised not to allow it to stream liquid on to the lens)
