Rifle Scopes ELCAN SpecterDR 1.5x/6x instead of SR-8C for SCAR 17?

This has been touched on, but I wasn't able to find any thing too recent.
My apologies if it has, please direct me to the relevant thread if so.

I just got my US Optics SR-8C up and running.
I love it, it's decently fast, and really reaches out there.
I have one complaint.
It is pretty damn heavy.
I have maybe 100 rounds through it, but even that little amount of practice has shown me how heavy it is.
Like I said before, I love it, I have never owned a better optic, I just don't know if I'll be happy with it in the long run.
The scope is sitting in a Bobro mount on top of a SCAR 17s. I wanted to set it up as a battle rifle with the option of some long range stuff, but most of my use will be 100yds and closer.
I've noticed a fairly significant distortion (seems like a fish eye lens) on 1x. It's not horrible, but it's enough that it throws me off. Both eyes open shooting is almost impossible for me with this scope. It will probably spend most of its life on the 1x setting so this is kind of a problem for me as well. (I guess that's two complaints)

At this point I'm considering looking into the ECLAN SpecterDR 1.5-6x.
It looks like it is about 10 ozs lighter, which would help, and still has the daylight visible red dot with the addition of the lit reticle.
From what I can gather it seems like it will be a downgrade as far as optical quality, but I'm not an expert and don't even know if I could spot a difference.

The ECLAN isn't a true 1x, but does anyone with experience know if it has the fisheye effect at 1.5x?
I'd be ok with 1.5x and it wouldn't impede both eyes open shooting for me as long as there isn't significant distortion. 6x is plenty magnification for the rifle's intended purpose.

Anybody have any experience with both scopes that could chime in?
Also, does anyone in the Dayton, OH area have one and would mind letting me look through it?
I appreciate any advice and help with this quandary.

Thanks,

Friend just mounted a 7.62 1.5-6X Elcan on his SCAR. We should be zeroing it this weekend. It seems like a nice sturdy scope and fits well on the SCAR. By fit I mean it doesnt change the SCAR from what its supposed to be - Light Weight battle rifle.

Looking through the glass I'm not good for giving an opinion. I shoot a 5-25X S&B on my MWS. That optic is what Im used to viewing and the smallish reticle of the SCAR looks anemic in comparison. The red dot feature looks good at 1.5 though. The glass is clear but I wear glasses and didnt play to see if I can adjust the eyepiece to my perscription or if it will even do so. I thought the reticle slightly fuzzy but I blame my eyes and not being familiar with the scope.

Im waiting on an SR8M for over a year now. Im hoping I dont find it too heavy. Im putting it on a 5.56 AR carbine and my intent is for the smaller AR to be every bit the non pig that the MWS is.

I might be able to update some on my impression of the Elcan after playing with it on Sunday but others on site will have way more experience Im sure.

Thanks for the info, I din't think I'd mind the weight of the SR-8, but it really is a problem for the SCAR. I think it would be perfect on an AR-15 though.

I may be looking at the incorrect models, but they look to essentially be the same weight? I have a SCAR 17 and I think it really shines being light weight and maneuverable, however it depends on each individual's use. I really contemplated getting a SR-8c as well, but ultimately decided I didn't want that much weight. I started with a Leupold MK4 1.5-5x20; this was a great fit and worked pretty well for me, but I was wanting more mag. I now have a non-illuminated March-F 1-8 and it is perfect for me. The glass is super clear and I find it very usable on 1x. As mentioned, it's not illuminated, but the FMC-2 reticle works well on 1x. The lines are a little thick at 8x, but definitely not a deal breaker for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the weight for the SpecterDR 1.5-6 includes the mount. By the time I add my Bobro mount to the SR-8 it comes out to about a 10 oz difference. I'm still on the fence with the ELCAN, but everyone I've talked to that owns one loves it. Honestly, I should be going with an Aimpoint T1 for my weight concerns, but I have a feeling I'll want some magnification. That March 1-8 is a nice piece of gear, but I really want a red dot for stuff in close.
