I think I'm in the market for one of these units. The SpecterDR that is. The only thing I'm wondering is should I hold off on a purchase until I find one in FDE. I've tried to search this and other forums to do my homework. However, most of the reports I turn up have to do with commentary on the SpecterDR as a platform, zero shift reports, etc. I've never quite run across a candid comparison between the two available 1-4x models (FDE and black). Certainly there is a bit of data out there. Some have mentioned the difference in reticle, 200m marking, color and availability. I was hoping for perhaps a bit more detail. An exhaustive side-by-side isn't necessary. But maybe a candid opinion from a user who has had the chance (and good fortune) to evaluate both models.
One primary question is this ... Would it be "better" to opt for a brand new civilian model in black ... Under the assumption it would have a more recent production date than the harder-to-find FDE model? I've read some posts that Elcan constantly improves, should minor tweaks become necessary as they churn out this particular product. Any basis for this belief on my part?
Just for background, the reason I'm considering holding out for the FDE is I'm "needlessly" updating my LMT CQB Piston. It came in all black and I'm adding some FDE parts (Sopmod stock, Ergo Grip, rail panels, etc). Would be kinda cool to run that brownish rubberized monster atop the new build.
Any thoughts, on or off point, would be greatly appreciated! Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. Right now my rig is configured with an EoTech 553 and Gen 2 3x.
