I have an Elcan SU-230 FDE sight on order for a 14.5" Ar.

I believe the elcan is calibrated for a 16" barrel shooting 62gr ammo, but I almost never shoot 62gr ammo.

I am trying to find out how well the BDC will match up with ammo I do shoot. For plinking I shoot 55gr m193 loads out to about 200 or 300yds. For any shooting further than that I would be shooting either a 69gr smk or 77gr smk just depending on which would match the BDC better.

I am not looking for a precise match, just close enough to hit man sized steel at various ranges. Any one have any experience with the elcan DR style optics at longer ranges? How well did the BDC match up for you, and does anyone know if I'll be better off with the 69gr or 77gr load?

Re: Elcan SU-230 BDC info

We mounted an SU230 to my brother in law's SCAR 16S, my SCAR 17S, and my 14.5" SOPMOD block II build. We zeroed at 25m using the 300m stadia line then put the targets back at 100m to confirm. Both SCARs POI were about 2-3" high. The 14.5" AR was dead nuts. According to the book its calibrated for 62gr 5.56, but it doesn't list the barrel length. My guess is just the barrel length difference had a couple of MOA shift, different weighted bullets are going to be a little up and down on the BDC, too.
