Okay getting really close for a first purchase of a ffp scope. I held an hdmr for the first time yesterday and I really liked it! I have been debating though over the hdmr or the swfa ss hd for a while now and to throw a quirk in there the hdmr with z-stop and 10 mil nobs! Is it worth the extra $400 to get the z-stop an d 10 mil nobs? Which is prefered the swfa or the hdmr I really like the hdmr reticle.

Nathaniel,

How far do you anticipate shooting? I have a G2HDMR and have found just recently started shooting past 600 yards. Once you start getting out there and you are on a double turn, it can become confusing. You really start to see where 10 mil turrets and z stop would be handy.

IMO the glass is nice. I am a little ignorant in this department as I have limited time behind the higher end scopes. I have had the oppurtunity to look through several high end scopes and of course a Schmidt and Bender, Steiner, Premier..... have nicer glass, but I have no complaints with the Bushnell.

The SWFA is also nice, but if you like the reticle in the Bushnell, which is what drove my decision also, you probably know what you want.

If you are shooting out to 1000 yards, I would recommend saving up the extra $400.00 for the extras on the HDMR. I also recommend talking to Scott at Liberty Optics... he is a good dude.

I am going to be shooting a .338lm so I will be shooting a variety of distance including beyond 1000 yards. I will be giving liberty a call here in the next few weeks to get it going for sure now that I have to save just a little more! cant hardly wait I have had the rifle since November and have not been able to shoot it as any scope I have would not due the rifle justice and would probably be stuck on it for the foreseeable future if i would of put it on!

I have the SS and like it, the glass is nice and it functions flawlessly. I did a lot of comparing before buying and the truth is most of these scopes will do what you want, it just comes down to which one appeals to you more.

Both scopes have a strong following and great track records. I do not own one of the SS scopes but have used them on several occasions. I personally prefer the G2 reticle. I also think 10 mil knobs and zero stop are something I value and would pay extra for.

Like others have said call Scott at Liberty Optics.

I have both and would recommend the DMR with the G2 reticle, if you get the mil dot then either are about the same to me. If your going to be using the reticle mainly then the Christmas tree reticle is a much better design. I have been a SFP NF guy (NP-R1) for the majority of my shooting time but I have some FFP scopes and like em to for different rigs. When using my FFP I hold 99.99% of the time. I hardly ever hold with my SFP. I do hold for wind, I'm talking elevation. Guess what I'm saying is that if your going the FFP route be picky with reticle choice. Get what you want. Vortex also makes a Christmas tree reticle in same price range, I still say DMR if not going with a NF F1, Good luck
