choice 4200 3x9x40 or buckmaster 4.5x14x40

about the same price - money is tight and I cant afford but a weeny bit more and thats pushing it.

going on a RRA Predator Pursuit 16" .223

for my sons first deer rifle and my hunting (varmints) - the problem:

his shots are going to be 100yds or less - mine may be 300...what gives say you? gimme some hints. I have a bushnell 4200 6x24x50 on my .308 savage long-range rifle and a 3x9x40 nikon buckmaster on my sako trg-s .270. I like 'em both but I am worried about the repeatability of the nikon (I havent had a problem - but have read) and the small magnification of the bushnell 4200.

I forgot to mention that this dilemma would not exist if I could have a 10x40 bushnell 3200 on the gun - I have one on my dpms lr-308 and love it- but its not gonna work for the deer hunting game

Your son is hunting with a .223? That's all well and good but don't you think that may be a bit small?

As far as scopes. I have had both and honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either. An even cheaper idea without sacraficing much at all would be just a 3-9x40 buckmaster. Around $200 or so.

most states will not let you use less than a 243 but if your state will then teach the child about good placement of rounds we shoot moose up here with 17hmr and 22mag right in the ear and down they go and dont get up I have a 3200 mil/mil 10/40 and would think a 4200 B&l would do nicely

If you have to go that route I say go with the Nikon. Had them both, the Nikon is a better scope.

I have that exact same model Bushnell. It does ok but lacks magnification for the 17hmr i use it on.

The glass is good on it.

It should be adequate. Cant comment on the Nikon as ive never owned one
