Gentleman I call upon your experience and request your input...

What is a fair and reasonable amount to charge for building a custom bolt rifle? Below are the big ticket items that I am not sure about.

Blueprinting Action:
Lapping Bolt Lugs:
Re-Barreling (cutting crown & headspace included):
Bedding Action (pillars included):
Installing Sight Mount:
Tune Trigger (3lbs):
Polish/Radius Edges:

Any positive feedback would be much appreciated, thank you.

Most of the renown smiths will all have prices listed for their services. I would just go on each of those and get an average and you'll have your answer. We all use them, so no one is going to rip you off. What you see is what you will pay. Also if there is a service you want done that isn't on their list, just e-mail or call them.

I have had the following smiths build rifles for me:

RWS Gunsmithing in Iowa
Phoenix Custom Rifles in Arizona
R&D Precision in California
Lawton Precision

All of them charged me something different but that's because the build specs and services weren't consistent between each gun.

If you are supplying all the parts, you are looking at $850 - $950 to complete your list.
I just had one built by GAP with all parts supplied by me. My action did not need truing or lugs lapped but I did ceracote and add a brake which would equal the cost of a true job. Bill was $925+/-.

From my Long Rifles Inc. estimate from my complete build last year. You could probably save a bit of money doing the stock work somewhere else. I just like Chad's system and decided it was wort it to me.

blueprint receiver, square threads, counterbore/truncate lead thread, lap lugs- $200
Bed/fit scope base- $40
Thread, chamber, crown, cut to length barrel and fit to action- $325
Stock work- $850

Stock work includes: filling the stock completely full of bedding compound, generating a computer model of your barreled action, CNC milling out a rough sketch of your barrel channel/action area, then doing a final bedding with LRI's proprietary pillar system. It's pretty slick if you ask me.

You could probably get it done even cheaper if you did just the metal work through LRI's group buy, then have the stock work done somewhere else if you're not as thrilled about LRI's process as I am.
