My dad lived in Pompano beach at the time.

A Cuban guy I know that fled Cuba told me his story. The black market over there is huge since a families rations of food and clothing is inadequate. He and a buddy scrounged an old two stroke motor and small aluminum boat which they buried in the ground to hide. They decided to make their move and got it to the water one night and took off. Once out of fuel, they drifted until they were picked up by a cargo ship and brought to Florida and later moved to Texas.

He said that Cuba doesn’t have “political prisoners” . His example to me was you can legally protest the Castro. You will get arrested and imprisoned for theft. Where did you get the supplies for your signs?We didn’t give them to you so you must have stolen them. Thats one political prisoner in jail but arrested as theft of property.

He has been successful here starting his own business. These commie sympathizers should talk to this man and see the anger when he speaks.

The entire saga of organized crime in the western hemisphere is a fascinating history to study. My favorite shows and films to watch are mob documentaries. It was mentioned on the Gangland series as well that the massive growth of what was at one time just a small, dusty Old West horse ranching town called Las Vegas into a multibillion dollar conglomerate of gambling, resort, pornography, and showbiz industries was partially due to the Mafia top dogs getting kicked out of Cuba right before Fidel Castro's takeover of the island. Before 1959, Cuba was the Las Vegas of the western hemisphere. After the takeover, the Mafia factions that controlled the island suddenly found themselves with nowhere to go. They could not go back up the eastern seaboard of the United States because the main cities of the east coast where they originally hailed from in the past have been thoroughly consolidated in the hands of the existing families that grew and thrived due to Prohibition. He was pissed that I tagged him in the post. He's like, "BRO, don't fucking do that! I still have family in Cuba!"

Then went on and on about how that video didn't even show the bad shit, and explained other aspects that the video didn't cover, like some stores only have ONE product, some have NONE, and they don't cut the AC on until after 1PM.

The political game was played for a few years. Castro "forgave" my uncle and several more Americans who made those businesses run, AND paid them to come back, live in lush villas, and get those businesses back up running under Castro cronies.
