I was given a bunch of 173gn bullets I am told were sold via the CMP as surplus/contract overruns (not pulled) several years ago.

Any accuracy problems with theses, ie, did they not meets spec, which is why they were not loaded into actual rounds?

Just trying to figure out if I should start working up loads with these, or go get some modern Amax or something else for match use.

I got 500 of them from a Marine buddy that bought them from the CMP. They shot well, but they all weighed about 174 up to 174.5 or so. That may be why they didn't make they cut and were sold. I still have a couple hundred left....Moly coated now.

Just remember that there are some practical limits to how accurately you can get FMJ open-base bullets to group.

There's a reason why Sierra's FMJ match bullets of the 1950s and 60s were replaced with HPBT designs.

In a bolt gun, you might get 1 MOA.
