Looking to purchase a .223 rifle to add to my collection. I have heard great things about Jp rifles, especially the ctr but has anyone on this forum purchased the SCR11 and why did you choose that over the ctr-2?

Can you give me your experience with a SCR11 if you have shot/handled/owned one?

I'm just worried about the lower and upper being incompatible with other brands. The upper and lower are designed to be used only with each other. I dont know if that is a down side or a plus.

Re: Experiences with JP SCR-11?

You sure the upper and lower aren't compatible with other brands? If so, the only down side would be that.

I dont have an SCR-11 but do have an LRP-07 and love the side charging mechanism. I'm a pretty big JP fan. Been shooting their rifles since the mid 90's and have always been very pleased with their accuracy and function. I'm sure you'll enjoy the SCR-11 if you get one.

Re: Experiences with JP SCR-11?

The SCR-11 isn't compatible with any AR-15 lower. It has to be used with its dedicated lower because the design omits the space where the charging handle used to be.

If upper and lower selection is a concern, JP makes the PSC-11 which is compatible with mil-spec lowers. It has a side charging handle, traditional charging handle, and a bolt forward assist. It isn't quite as slick looking as the SCR.

I personally think that the lower incompatibility is not a big deal.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm going to try to wait another week to see more reviews and do more research.

Hopefully more can chime in.

Re: Experiences with JP SCR-11?

I just received my scr yesterday and fit and finish is awesome. Have not shot it yet. Just a lil warning don't be in a hurry to get one the website says 8 to 10 weeks and mine took 12. It might be that way because I changed it a lil from the standard scr.

Re: Experiences with JP SCR-11?

Hey Javier,

I dont know if I'm getting a SCR anymore because I think the seller pulled the sale. I almost wonder if it'll be cheaper to go with a custom upper than a JP?

I'll be back mid august, lets hit the range soon?

Re: Experiences with JP SCR-11?

Well, JP's just aren't going to be cheap. If you find one at a deal, now that's different. If you want to save some money though, you should check out the BCM 18" stainless upper. I think they offer one with the JP 12" handguard. Mark's is about as accurate as my JP. Lowell even got one after shooting Marks. I think Mark went with a Rolling Thunder brake. Talk to you soon.

Re: Experiences with JP SCR-11?

I bought a SCR-11 this year for multi gun competitions and loved it so much that a couple of months later I bought the LRP-07 for Heavy Metal division. I like being able to charge the rifle from prone without breaking my cheek weld. The rifle is incredibly accurate even with the limitations of the Burris XTR 1-4 optic. Monday I ordered the new Leupold MK6 1-6 on a LE purchase to replace the Burris. I will probably get a second one so both rifles have the same optics and controls. They are expensive but worth it in my opinion. I'm a bit of a gun snob as I shoot rifles from JP, pistols from SVI, and my shotgun is a Salient Arms Benelli M2. I like buying the best gear possible so I can't blame anything but myself for a poor performance.
