I am trying to get my hands on a 6.5-20x50 FFP M5. The main importer over here does not seem to be offering them yet and I would like to try and get a better deal anyway.

Any suggestions as to a reputable business that would export one at a decent price?

Re: Export Leupold M5 to UK

Leupold prohibits international export of their products from the United States. If you can find a dealer that will do it anyway, I would be concerned about warranty issues.

Spoken as a person who has purchased "grey market" electronics in San Francisco and tried to have them serviced here.

Presumably to protect their International dealers. Looks like I need to go throughout the official channel or take a trip....

You can't do that either, and it's nothing to do with protecting international dealers but to do with US export restrictions on arms related products. If you get caught leaving the US at customs, the scope will be confiscated. You need a State Department export permit to ship scopes out of the US. There's a dealer in Lynden, WA, called Dave's Sports who is a federally licensed exporter, and can arrange the necessary paperwork.

Just curious, for the people going safari in Africa, do they take their own rifles with them?

In this case they're not permanently exporting their firearms. Before they leave they have to get their guns registered with customs. Customs issue the traveler with a certificate of registration, which has to be presented to Customs when they return home.

I understand your frustration, you can source EU made products at will, there are no restrictions between member states; Britain apparently has similar export restrictions on these type of products as well, and I'm sure this goes for other EU member states.

I'd favor an S&B over a Leupold anyway.
