There's no money in anything shooting related. Especially not the shooting part.
Most companies have done away with reps or brought it to an internal position with minimal pay. I know a few that used to clear 6 figures by working with a dozen company's. They're all doing something else because during the Trump slump all those reps got cost cut.
My Dad works a gun counter. He does it for 2 reasons; doesn't need the money, gets stuff at store cost. I'd bet he puts 80% of his paycheck back into the store. Retired with a pension that pays his real bills. As a widower it keeps him out of the house and doing stuff. I couldn't pay my mortgage with his hourly pay.
Highschool friend works at a very big gun company. He has a 4 year mechanical engineering degree. He's happy making $60k/yr because he's working with guns. Part of his job is R&D which involves the newest latest greatest toys and playing with them.
He could go down the street and make 2-3x the pay at a real engineering firm, with his $100k diploma.
There's also the dilemma of turning your hobby into a job. Burns you out and you end up just changing hobbies. Part of the reason why I don't have more guns and scopes, is archery, dirt bikes, mountain bikes, snowmobiles, and trucks. I'm always down to go do something, but I'm never burned out on any 1 hobby.
