Failure to fully eject spent cartridge...

My Volquartsen 17HMR fails to fully eject a spent casing about once every 10-12 shots. Tried cleaning the rifle - didn't help. Seems to be a little play in the ruger magazines I use - don't know if that is the problem. Any advice? Since CCI makes all the 17 HMR ammo, that shouldn't figure into the equation.

Not true, there are several companies that make 17hmr ammo. I was holding a box of remington 17hmr this morning

My first guess would be a extractor issue, then i'd check the brass neck to see if they reamed the chamber to wide.

Don't know about the .17 but on my .22 the aftermarket magazines were wearing out so they would fit loose. Got some of the steel lip magazines and problem cured.
