I want to get a rifle that would be used to shoot varmints in the 100-400 yard range. Needs to have limited recoil as my petite wife (110 pounds) and 16 year old niece will also be shooting this gun. I have looked at .25-06, 6mmbr, etc on paper, but don't have access to those guns for trial shoots. How have others of you resolved this question? I don't intend to reload, just get my ammo from cabelas, which may affect my choices as well. Thanks.

+1 for a .223. Look at the CZ527. Has a Kevlar H.S. precision stock, set trigger. IO have mine at 10oz. on the set, and 3.5 on regular. It is a tack driver. This is a light little rifle. And will not break the bank. You can find these used for somewhere around 4-600.00.

The second picture is a 4 shot group at 100 yards.

I would go with a .223 AR, with a collapsible stock. Minimal recoil, light weight, and adjustable LOP. If you really want a bolt gun for them I would still vote for .223 since your not reloading.

And a good optic to top it off....
