favorite 308 load for 600+ out of a 20" barrel?

What is you favoite 308 load for beyond 600 yards out of a 20" barrel. I am thinking of going from the 168 A-max up to the 178 Hornady BTHP match bassed on comment made here. Is the better BC and weight worth the velocity loss out of the 20" barrel?

running a savage 10 20in 308 with a 1-10 twist

with 44gr of varget
AOL-2.814
Average of 2621.6 FPS for 10 shots fired 2607fps-2641fps

I use an old Horandy powder measure so the loads might vary 44.gr to 44.2gr

A litte something to compare too,been running this load for months and have yet to see any pressure signs

Whatever load you come up with you will be running at max most likely.

Barely 2600fps out of 20" LTR groups about 2MOA @ 1k for me. Not great but it gets there pointy end first.

47.5 2000MR powder same everything else haven't tried yet but am hopeful for it.

4000+ elevation helps a lot too. ~600 feet here much harder.

The shorter barrel will run a bit slower than a standard 24" but you should be able to stay supersonic past 1000 yds in most cases.

Just over 2600fps. arrives at 600 yards around 1675 fps. About .75 MOA at 600.

I really like Varget as well.

Runs right at 2550 fps from a 22" barrel, but that's not max load yet. It is however, all I want to run through an M1A's operating rod.

Still, while on the slower side, the accuracy is amazing, tried working up to 43.5 in increments, and groups were blown to crap. It's a laser beam, nonetheless, and easy on the shoulder.

43.5 varget, 178 a max, 2.815, BR2 iirc. load down 10% and start there.

I ordered some 178 BTHP from Powder Valley yesterday, so hopfully I will have some to try soon. I have both Varget and R15 so we'll see what works best.

couple of loadds that have worked very well is IMR 4064 @
42.2 with a 175ge SMK and 45gr Varget with the same 175gr
