I ended up with some 75 bthp by mistake. I have a great varget load for 75 amax's, but I think I just want a powder I can throw w/o weighing each load for the bthp's. Are any of the ball powders good across the temp range? Any favorites? I'm all ears.. thanks

BLC2 ain't bad. Kind of dirty however. Meters very nicely. Doesn't push the bullets as fast as Varget or RL15, at least for me. I have used BLC2 on 200 or so 75gr H that shot nicely.

H335 will work. Don't dis the 75hpbt without an honest try. They will hold their own in most circles, especially out to 600. Actually my bullet of choice in the AR.

I use 25.0gr. of AA 2520 with the 75gr. A-MAX out of a semi-auto (single load - OAL 2.390") with good results. I have not AA 2520 yet with the regular 75gr. BTHP's yet.
There are a ton of good ball powders for the .223 such as:
Win 748
BL-C(2)
AA 2520
H-335
Ramshot TAC
I have good accuracy with ALL of these powders but if I had to pick a favorite ball powder it would be Win748.
I use 25.0gr. of AA 2520 with the 75gr. A-MAX out of a semi-auto (single load - OAL 2.390") with good results. I have not AA 2520 yet with the regular 75gr. BTHP's yet.

Thanks for the replies. Thats actually my evil plan: to load up a bunch of ammo that really "needs" a new AR to shine. It would be hard to step back from the amaxes in the bolt gun. I looked up some threads on TAC last night some mixed reviews, but seems like the guys who actually worked up loads made it shoot well.

I shoot a bolt with the 75gr A-max, since I have a single shot follower I shoot them past magazine length. 27.5gr of Ramshot Big game, and CCI 450 gets me about 3100fps and awesome accuracy out of my 26 inch McGowen. Another member on here loads the 75gr HPBT with 26.5gr of Big Game, and gets them seated at mag length. No idea what his velocity is, but he said the load was awesome for his AR. Big Game meters like a dream, and I haven't tested the temp sensitivity myself, but it is supposedly better then other ball powders.

I love the win. 748, but it is temp. sensitive. I will keep it in a cooler till time to shoot on hot days. The H335 and BL-C(2) is good as well. I have not got to try the TAC yet, but I hear good things.
