I am looking at a Millett LRS and a Falcon Menace 5-25. I like the FFP and the reticle of the FM, but I also like the warranty and IR of the LRS. The scope will go on a rimfire, and I don't shoot enough that a trip make to the maker will hurt me any.

LRS
140 MOA = 41 mil (I think)(no need for offset base)
35mm tube
IR
Warranty

Falcon Menace
lighter by 3 oz.
First focal plane
"Seems" to have less problems

I have seen used LRS-1s for $325 to $350, and used FMs for about the same. Is FFP worth the lack of warranty and the offset base($40)?

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

I have the falcon 4-14 and i am very happy with it!! No problems or defects, tracks well, and holds zero.

Glass is very good for a budget scope.

I would buy one through SWFA or some of the hide dealers as they are very reputable and can assist in any warranty issues.

If i were you take the falcon over Millet

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

The falcon does indeed have great features, such as 'the ability to cease functioning correctly'

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

save your money and pick up a used Leupold, USO, Nightforce, or hell go buy a new nikon with some of the features you NEED not "I Think extra knobs look cool" and then run with it.

glass is not the place to pinch pennies...

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

If I had the money I would be buying an FFP 4200 or PST. Unfortunately i have other hobbies that require money too, that I can actually legally enjoy here in J-land. Only way I would afford nightforce or the likes would be finding one on the side of the road/trail, or if the USD drops down to 50 yen per dollar. Or maybe if a won a lawsuit against the TSA. hmmm...

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

Save your pennies is correct. I just put a Centerpoint 4-16x40 Ill mildot on an airrifle, and love the features of this inexpensive scope. I will be buying more of these scopes for other rimfires. (Buy one at Walmart), take it outside and look through it. If you do not like it take it back inside and get a refund. $70.00 plus taxes. Comes with rings, 2 batteries, an allen wrench, and instructions.

THIS IS NOT A "REPLACEMENT", as good as, or thought to be, or a copy of a NF, S&B, Loupy, Bush, or any other DAMN good scope. It is what it is. A nice scope for the money. I was very surprised at the scope.

For your info, I have a $400 scope on my CZ 452 .22, it come off and a Centerpoint will be replacing it.

I do not work for CP or WW.

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

I've got two of those, one on an RWS 850, and the other will go on a Blizzard, or the MK2 in 17hm2 if I can get one located. I just want something better than what I have to practice slinging lead with. i can pick up a used LRS, use it for 3 years while I save up money, sell it for a high percentage of what I have in it, and then upgrade. Or I can sit there with a $70 piece of glass with dissimilar glass/turrets and not really learn anything. Which sounds better?

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

Well you started by asking about the warranty vs features but you seem to really require mil/mil to learn on based on your last post. Weaver's mil/mil scope looks pretty nice especially for the price but doesn't have all the flash although better glass from what I've heard.

I've read too many bad reviews with both of the higher power scopes you're looking at. Look at their lower power scopes. I would imagine the millet would hold it's value longer because, logically, would you buy a scope with full warranty or almost none left? I think you would be basically dropping your pants on the FM selling it close or after the warranty expires. I like the scopes - no doubt about it. I just wouldn't pay anything close to full price for a potential paper weight. You're a fool if you think you will have a buyer for a high percentage of what you paid.

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

I have no experience with the Falcon, but I do have direct experience with the Millet LRS. Specifically 4 returns to Bushnell for failure to track.

The Millet LRS scopes I dealt with (had a total of 3 serial numbers accross the process) had clicks that were half to one MOA (as compared to the stated 1/4 MOA). In each instance either the elevation or the windage would track, but the other would fail terribly. Forget about anything coming home to zero.

This is my personal experience with the product. Hope it saves you some future pain and suffering.

I am currently saving up for a Nightforce 5.5X22 instead. It will take some time to save the $$, but my next scope WILL track accurately.

I am looking at these two because they both have mil/mil. One has ffp, which is a really nice feature, and the millett has the lifetime warranty. My parents made me utilitarian, and liking cars in Japan means I have to think about how to sell it when I buy it. I also like the 140 MOA of travel, which in my eyes makes it good for a rimfire. What part of Austin are you living in? I have parents in Georgetown.

The one I am looking at buying tracks correctly says the owner. I honestly don't see myself putting it through it's paces until right before I leave to come back to J-land, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get it pulled boxed and sent off. Thanks for the warning. I have already talked to Millett about the warranty stuff, to see how they would handle it.

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

I'm in South Austin but travel a lot for work. Two weeks ago was in Minnesota, last week Iowa, this week Houston...

I know the 140 MOA sounds great, but with all of the disappointments other hide members have had, you're rolling the dice. Plus it's HUGE!! I would seriously look at the TRS. I don't know of many Mil/Mil scopes under $400 which is why I said I was looking at the Millet and Falcon and suggested the Weaver. I love the idea of the FFP but with the lack of warranty....eh...I can wait and save up for a PST or something else.

If you get a chance, drive up to Dallas and look through them at SWFA.

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

I found a guy in Austin with both the LRS and TRS that will let me look through them. The LRS is used, and the guy hasn't had any problems with it. It7s a 2008-9 model I think, so it should be newer than that growing pains earlier models. If it breaks too much, I send it back to get it repaired or replaced, and sell it. I am kinda used to rolling the dice, hence the reason I have to have the warranty. Like I said earlier, a PST would be on the top of the list if I wasn't saving for a trans-pacific move and green card, cars, and all the other stuff that is used when moving your life and wife overseas.

On a different note, since you travel alot, I am sure you must really love the new Totally Sexual Assault measures put in place.

Re: Features(Falcon Menace) vs. Warranty(Millett LRS)

I got the LRS, and I am talking to DIP about making a bigger MOA base. Since the overall range is 140 MOA, how much should MOA should the base have to keep most of the scope travel useful?
