Re: Federal match 175 gr .308

No sir,Federal gold 175gr 2600fps ,20 inch barrel 20 fps loss for every " is about 2500fps to 2550fps, I'm guessing?Do most companies test on a 24" barrel?Don't have a chrono yet.

I don't know how serious you are wanting to be, but if it were me, I wouldn't want to trust my dope past 500 yards to guessing at my muzzle velocity. But that is just me. I think the best way to go is to run some over a chronograph and then run some numbers in a ballistic calculator. Even then, when you get out at distance, things like Density Altitude are going to change, so you will either need to have multiple cards or a field useable ballistic program...

I will do a search there was someone selling drop cards here, I think they were adjustable for velocity and DA..

Thank you for that Dave, gonna get a chrono and a reloader when I have the extra coin.Picked up a sps tac ,bushy 3x12 ffp/ B&C medalist a5,/leupold range finder/leupold mark 4 rings and 20moa base/20x60x80 konus/uso folding level/bolt knob and waiting on a jewell trigger so funds are a little tight. My wife would beat me if she saw this post and knew the prices.

Re: Federal match 175 gr .308

This game definately starts to add up quickly. If there is someone around you that you know or shoot with, wouldn't take much time to shoot a few rounds over a chrony. I play around too much, so I find a chrony as a must have for load development and data. The best data comes from time behind the trigger with a data book though. That's where you will find the actual drops for your rifle, and this can be done without a chronograph. Running an estimated velocity in a ballistic program will get you close enough to have a starting point...

Get one of Storm Tacticals data books. The FGMM 175g chart is included with the book and the remainder of the data will help you tremendously. Also keeping track of what happens depending on the conditions will help you also.

Good luck,
