I have a Lawton 700 SA, Brownell bottom metal and follower. The bolt face barely engages the rear of the casing, most of the time it just hops over the edge and will not push the round. The caliber is 6.5x47. I am not sure if I need to open up the receiver to allow the round to sit higher or change the shape of the follower to get the round to sit higher. Anyone seen this before? Thanks

Re: Feeding Snag

The actioned started out as a blank Lawton 7000 short action. It exhibits this problem with 1 or 5 rounds, no change. I will try to take some pics, but they seem to "rock front to back" leading me to believe its a follower problem. Looking at the follower, it is a s.s. piece, no bumps, humps, etc to cause this. I am stumped.

Re: Feeding Snag

I would compare the feed rails in the action to those of a .473 700 and see if they need to be opened up.

Also, make sure the spring is not in backwards if the rounds are tipping forward.

If you have a factory follower handy, you might change it out just to see if it makes any difference.

Sounds like a good candidate for a detachable mag system.

Re: Feeding Snag

I had this problem with my Lawton in 280AI. Tried opening up the feed lips on the box, no dice. Then I tried to narrow the follower by removing a little material on the side opposite the first round: no dice. The next step was to open up the angle of the follower: success, but the follower was catching on the bolt and causing it to move forward into the feed ramp. Rounded out and polished the back of the follower and it now feeds perfectly. The bolt catches a lot more of the cartridge and have not had a single misfeed since.

My follower was the remington aluminum factory follower, not stainless, so it was easy to work with with a file.
