First off sorry if this is the wrong forum but I didn't know where else to post.

So I purchased a long rifle from an individual off of Gunbroker. The individual mailed this rifle himself and did not go through an FFL. The rifle arrived at my local FFL for transfer and they accepted it but they then realized that the seller did not include a photocopy of his ID. I have tried reaching out to the seller but he has gone completely radio silent. I informed the seller he needed to include a copy of his ID if he was going to personally ship it but it seems he missed that part. My local FFL is telling me that they cannot transfer the rifle to me until they receive a copy of his DL or state ID. Has anyone had a similar situation happen to them? Is there a federal or state requirement for the receiving FFL to have a copy of his ID? Do I need to get the ATF involved? They also say they can't send it back because they don't know where to send it to. At this point, my rifle seems to be stuck in limbo. The seller is from Idaho an I am in Ohio if that matters.

Yes, this is correct - your FFL can get into big trouble (like "loose his license" big) if he cannot log the rifle into his A&D book, and part of that is knowing from whom he has received the firearm. He needs to contact his IOI for further guidance.
