Picked up a new Remington 700 SPS Varmint over the holidays, mounted my Leupold VX1 4-12x40 to it and finally got out today to give it a spin. Zeroed the scope for a 300 yd zero, then confirmed it on the 8" 300 yd steel target. Tried shooting the 600 yd barrel, but we could not tell if any hits were made, and were not going to walk thru the snow to find out. Had a good time even if it was COLD.
Lessons learned.
1. Save up for optics more suited for LR shooting.
2. Upgrade to better stock.
3. Keep shooting until I can.
4. Make sure buddy is home next time so I can use his 4 wheeler to check targets.
5. Help same buddy upgrade this new firing range he just built on his farm.
6. Invest in a longer shooting mat.
