Does a true measurement to the ogive require the barrel to be mounted to the action?? Or can I get a measurement with an unmounted barrel??

I've seen video purporting that a measurement can be obtained with an unmounted barrel... but I am dubious. My usual method is to removed the firing pin and ejector and decrease the bullet seating until the bolt handle falls without effort.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions??

Thanks in advance
Andrew

The measurement you're after goes from the bolt face to the lands. So, yes . . . that would require the barrel to be mounted on the action. AND, I might at, the best measurement to the bolt fact is done with the ejector pin removed so the case's base is not being pushed away from the bolt face.
