She's FINALLY done (for now ;))!! So, in case I haven't introduced myself to most of you guys, my names Steve. I got started in this "black hole" of a sport back in February, so I'm fairly new to the game. I've learned a great deal since I've been on the Hide and want to thank everyone who has helped me though my little build. Especially Skylar and David at SWFA and Keith at AZ Precision.

So on to the specs: Stock Rem 700 SPS-V in .308 Win. B&C A-5 stock, EGW 20MOA rail, SWFA SS 16x, and Scout knob by AZ Precision. Very simple, very accurate and very fun to shoot!! Yes, the rings are too high and I plan to fix that soon. Also, the Millet underneath the gun is for my Mini-14. Waiting patiently for my 30mm rings from Ruger....sigh.

Quick story; this past weekend was my birthday and the local on-base range was closed for whatever reason or another. So I called up the buddies and we all wanted to go test drive a couple new firearms, old firearms, and of course, my newly finished Rem 700. I said, hey, why don't we drive down to Hope, AK? Reason being, Anchorage is completely stupid with the selection of firing ranges in the local area and expensive to boot. This way, no one could bother us, it never closes, and we can do just about whatever the hell we wanted :)It's about an 1:15 drive, but the valley I had in mind would be worth it. Just a teaser photo for ya:

Yes, I know he doesn't have proper form behind the gun, but he's just having fun. The target proved what proper form does, lol. BTW, that's me with the waterbottle watching my buddies take turns plinking. Another Hide member, "Sgt. Recoil" is on the binos. We had about 300 yds out until the mountain-side went up about 2500 ft. at a 50 degree slope. It was riddled with random fist- to melon-sized rocks. So, we set up a paper target on a "frame" we made out of branches and 550 cord. "Laser-rangefindered" it at exactly 100 yds. Zeroed in the bull dead-on after 3 rounds, so I grabbed a backpack, threw my gun over it and proceed to light up the mountain-side with one-shot rock kills!! I managed to cut a ragged 10 round hole .5" right of the bull immediately after zeroing in as well. It was the most fun I've ever had with a gun. Now I can't wait to leave Alaska and go somewhere I can actually shoot, lol!!
If you're wondering, the reason it's taken months to put the rifle together, I also got into reloading. 308 Win, .45SACP, and .357 Mag. So that presented a financial speed bump, however, well worth it. I'm able to put rounds EXACTLY where the crosshairs point out to 250 yds. So now I gotta get on the trigger and practice, practice.

A few final photos for those who like the scenery

Thanks, I'll tell the wife. She took the photo

Re: Finished my build....FINALLY!!

Just to clarify, where we were isn't exactly a firing range. We had to "build" one at the end of the valley we hunt black bear in. This is what it takes to shoot long range near the Anchorage area. You have to drive over an hour from town to do so. Alaska....wide open spaces (except Anchorage).
